Malaysian prime minister denies nuclear whitewash
ELECTION SCANDAL: Opposition parties say diplomatic resources were used to defend a company owned by the premier's son in a probe into the sale of nuclear parts

AP , KUALA LUMPUR
Wednesday, Feb 25, 2004,Page 5

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi rejected opposition allegations yesterday that a police investigation into the trafficking of nuclear parts to Libya had been whitewashed to protect his son, who controls the company involved.

Abdullah also said that Washing-ton was unlikely to impose sanctions against this Southeast Asian nation over the trafficking, which allegedly was part of a clandestine effort by Pakistani nuclear scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan to sell nuclear weapons capability to Libya, Iran and North Korea.

"I don't think the United States will go to the extent of imposing sanctions because of one small incident," Abdullah told reporters.
