Fresh from more wins, Kerry challenges Bush on jobs lost overseas

Fresh from three more easy victories in the Democratic presidential race, John Kerry looked to a fight with President Bush over jobs lost to foreign countries.

Kerry defeated Sen. John Edwards by large margins in Utah and Idaho, and also won in Hawaii, where Edwards ran third. That gave Kerry 18 wins in 20 contests.

The two leading candidates bypassed the three states to focus on the huge delegate prizes at stake when 10 states vote next week on Super Tuesday.

Two weeks after the president's chief economic adviser described the shipping of American jobs abroad as "just a new way of doing international trade," Kerry was announcing his plan to address that situation.

1. Three months notice?
Edited on Wed Feb-25-04 08:56 AM by Ilsa
That's it? That's f#@king IT? How about a penalty of some sort, JFK? Maybe a loss of tax benefits?

I mean, I'm glad he's going after *, but this doesn't inspire me very much. I'm looking at voting for JFK, and I'll support him if he is the nominee, but this bugs me.

2. I wholeheartedly agree with you
snip

"Companies will no longer be able to surprise their workers with a pink slip instead of a paycheck -- they will be required to give workers three months notice if their jobs are being exported offshore."

yeah,it's like "we are going to bring civility back to America. When Corporations move your jobs overseas, they are going to be required to give you a 3 month notice." That will teach 'em.

I'm supposed to be happy about this? I have a freeper co-worker I've been working on and he told me yesterday he was thinking of voting for Edwards. I about fell down. It was his message about the average joe, trying to make ends meet. That really hits home for a lot of people living pay check to pay check.
