He arrived at Wednesday morning's Conservative caucus meeting with interim party leader Grant Hill.
“I've had a lot of support in
riding to go to the Conservatives. I've thought about it very carefully. While I think I could make a difference as an independent MP ... in the long run to be effective in the House of Commons you really have to belong to one of the major political parties.
“I have far more sympathies for the Conservatives than I do for the New Democrats. I think this is where I belong for now,” Mr. Bryden told reporters before heading into Wednesday's caucus meeting in Ottawa.
