Abortion Bill Passes
A bill that would ban most abortions in South Dakota received final legislative approval Wednesday - sending the measure to Governor Rounds.

The South Dakota House agreed to accept a Senate change in the bill that would make a health exception for women.  Abortions would be banned unless a woman's health or life are in jeopardy.

The measure contains no exception for women who become pregnant as a result of rapes.

Representative Matt McCaulley of Sioux Falls says he hopes the bill will prompt the U.S. Supreme Court to reconsider a 1973 decision that said women have the right to abortions.

I haven't seen or heard of this in the news at all. Why isn't there any mention in the major media?

1. So who wants out of South Dakota
And who will not live there. South Dakota joins Texas and Florida as places I will not spend money if I can help it.

3. This won't get past US District Court
Unless it is appealed in the state courts and goes to the State Supreme Court. But really I think it will go to State court and be overturned immediately by a Fed. Judge. and the appellate court won't even hear it.

5. Why do women put up with this crap?
Why aren't women mad as hell?

So much time and energy spent on legislating what a woman can or cannot do and under what circumstances.

This will surely go to the Supreme Court. There'll be a strong states' rights argument. No guarantee that the state won't prevail.

8. To be a woman in South Dakota...
...is not akin to being a woman in, say, LA or New York. "Wimmin folk" learn their place in the dark corners of America, through a systemic brutality that is economic, religious, physical - and always political.

What do you want them to do? They are up against a social force not unlike the Taliban.

11. Bit of a sweeping generalization, wouldn't you say?
"Wimmin folk" in SD aren't up to standing up against this? The Taliban has invaded South Dakota? :eyes:

Sure, some women are brutalized, but I'll bet there are a lot more of them in either New York or Los Angeles than there are in Sioux Falls.

They're everywhere.

16. That's why there's a bill to stop the SupCourt from ruling on 'God' stuff!

This is a calculated move to give politicians who act out of 'religious conviction' in the name of 'God' impunity. No, I'm not kidding. Read the end of this little explainer I threw together about our own Taliban movement over the last years.

The whipping up of the old anti-semitic and anti-homosexual 'passions' is cover for a very real and documented campaign to make this country into a Hitlerian theocracy fueled by fundamentalist religious passions called 'Dominionism.'
This is the basic model of religion-fueled fascism:
Supreme Dictator Smiting Evil-doers Wrathfully With No Legal Restraints.
Sound familar?

'THE CHOSEN FEW' IS BEING MORPHED INTO 'THE MASTER RACE'
THE SAME WAY 'GET OSAMA' WAS MORPHED INTO 'GET SADDAM'! GET IT?

We are living in the closing minutes of a culture war that the American Taliban, called Dominionists, are winning.
'Might Makes Right' is WINNING over 'The Rule of Law.'
The US Constitution (as people power) is being gutted and replaced with the Bible (as king power) so we will all suffer permanent war, not enjoy imminent peace.

Georgie's brain is much worse than you think and he's being used for terrible purposes. Here's a British clinical psychologist's researched analysis of the boy king. He interviewed Georgie's family, friends and such and determined that he was abused as a child and developed an 'authoritarian personality,' the root of fascism! Read it and weep for him and us.

And this personality is being exploited to further the creation of a Hitlerian Theocracy called ‘Dominionism’, which has been going on in this country for the last thirty years. Read it and wonder what the hell we're in for next now that Eugenics is domestic policy and Imperialism is foreign policy.

If you'd like to read the full speech of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia back in the dark ages of January 2002 when he said that 'democracy interferes with the Divine Right of Kings and he's doing something about it,' read this and wonder what century we're living in and just what that Constitution was for, anyway.

How can they get away with it when everyone seems to be pissed off at Georgie and we're supposed to be able to vote the bastard out of our White House? By fixing the electronic voting machines for 'the House.' Read this and decide which country to escape to this fall when Georgie is reinstalled to finish the job he was sent to do-eliminate democracy totally, create a police state, and conquer the world.

LATE BREAKING NEWS-FEB. 26 2004
Right now the Dominionists are introducing legislation to replace 'The People' as the authority in our democracy’s Constitution with ‘God’ in a bill called ‘The Constitution Restoration Act of 2004,’ exactly the opposite of what it really is. The legalities of the Christian Theocracy are being used to destroy our laws as if by the Taliban in Afghanistan.

This is not a test! It is absolutely real and happening right now while the media are busy covering gay marriage and Mel Gibson’s bloody crucifixion porn film, ‘The Passion of the Christ.’

“…on February 11 , 2004 Dominionist leaders in congress made their move; they introduced a bill in both houses called The Constitution Restoration Act of 2004. Among the sponsors of the bill are Rep. Robert Aderholt (Alabama), Rep. Michael Pence (Indiana), Sen. Richard Shelby of Alabama, Sen. Zell Miller (Georgia), Sen. Sam Brownback (Kansas), and Sen. Lindsey Graham (South Carolina).

The House version is H.R. 3799 and the Senate version is S. 2082. The bill limits the U.S. Supreme Court and federal courts to hear cases involving “expressions of religious faith by elected or appointed officials.”

Although the claim by its sponsors appears to be that the intention is to prevent the courts from hearing cases involving the Ten Commandments or a Nativity Scene in a public setting from being reviewed, the law is drawn broadly and expressly includes the acknowledgment of God as the sovereign source of law by an official in his capacity of executing his office.”

18. Thank you for the links.
I read the link on Dominionism the other day - it seems incredible,
part of me finds it hard to believe, but there's no denying that the
results are there to see, all too clearly.

Although the signs are looking quite good right now for a Democratic
victory, I think the whole Bush cabal is going to fight tooth and
nail, with every dirty trick they know, to prevent it, and I'm not
sure they won't succeed. It seems there are too many people who
are still not aware of what the Republicans are capable of. It
scares me.

You're really on the ball, keep putting up those links.

The PNAC wants less populations without abortion or family planning. Guess, they're going use "biological warfare" to do it.

10. Please vote for anyone with a D by their name
If you believe in choice, education about sexuality, birth control then you must vote for the Dems.

I read this and I wanted to :puke: literally. I know folks who are honestly anti-choice but I've read about too much infanticide and illegal abortions.

12. I'm getting more and more pissed off
Why is it that mostly MEN decide the rights of women? Why the hell do we have to stand for them taking away our rights, just as we have finally begun getting them? This shit is depressing me incredibly. Today alone, I had to tell off someone on another board because he used a throwaway example about rape, and I told him he needed sensitivity training. WTF can't men stay the hell out of our personal affairs and our rights over our own damn bodies? I am SO sick of having mostly Repuke men decide what I can and can't do. He also had to say that anyone who says "I would likely never have an abortion, but I can't deny that to others who choose it" was a WIMPY comment, implying that some Democratic politicians use that wording when they argue about the right to choice. For crying out loud, many politicians--mainly Democrats--are religious, and while their religion says that abortion is illegal, they are capable of separating church and state, and keeping the rights of women from degradation even further.

Repukes want to ban abortion and create whole generations of kids so they can use them for cannon fodder. We've GOT to get them the hell out of government, and the hell out of our personal lives.

13. If I were from South Dakota
I'd be pissed about the legislature wasting their time and the taxpayers' money on this... but then again, who am I to say- my state's legislature has wasted every legislative session in the past four years getting damn near nothing done.

15. The weird thing is
the prolifers in South Dakota joined the prochoice people in opposing this. Why?, you ask. Because the prolifers know that this will go to the courts and they're afraid Roe v Wade will be upheld with language so strong they'll lose their case entirely. There was an article about this in the Minneapolis Star Tribune a couple days ago - I'm too lazy to look it up right now.
