2. what??

He just said that plane weren't scrambled because we weren't expecting it?!?! Somehow this seems like an incredibly arrogant statement to me considering that they were having a simulation of that exact same scenario that very same day. How can he say they weren't expecting it?

7. that's crap
When the private plane carrying golfer Payne Stewart went off course in 1999 and lost radio contact, jets were scrambled.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/golf/pga/news/1999/10/25/stewart_plane_ap/

excerpt:

A government source said the plane should have turned left at Gainesville on a course for Dallas. It made only a partial turn before heading in a straight line toward South Dakota.

The FAA routed air traffic around the Learjet and kept planes from flying underneath it in case it crashed.

Fighter jets from Florida and Oklahoma went after the plane.

Air Force Capt. Chris Hamilton said there was nothing he could do when his F-16 caught up with the Learjet over Memphis, Tenn.

end excerpt.

Here we have four planes off course and NOTHING is done!!!! Bullshit.
"It's a very helpless feeling to pull up alongside another aircraft and realize the people inside that aircraft potentially are unconscious or in some other way incapacitated," Hamilton said. "And there's nothing I can do physically from my aircraft -- even though I'm 50 to 100 feet away -- to help them at all."

8. I'm confused
I thought the reason they are suppose to be able to scramble planes so quickly is in case something happens that we're not expecting.

3. Well, Keane just provided a hint as to how the delay of scrambled

jets will be handled in the report. He suggests that our defenses responsible for scrambling jets and protecting our airways were not looking "internally" for a problem, but were looking out to sea.

Yeah sure.....I'm satisfied with that answer. Even though they already had intelligence before 9/11 that airlines might be used as a weapon to fly into buildings.

40 million dollars for a whitewash report....

6. Looking out to sea?
Then I guess they picked up Payne Stewart's Learjet in their rear-view radar, and mistook it for a Soviet bomber.

Keane sounded naively accepting of whatever horseshit some aide sends his way, kinda like aWol. Or he's in whitewash mode, bigtime.

5. Because it's over now....

Catch it later in reruns I guess. He was only on for 10 minutes or so. You didn't miss much in the way of new info. They are covering the last two years of Clinton and the first year of Bush administrations. They can't get anyone in the WH to talk before the commission (except Condi Rice, privately) or the public, and they need an extension to complete it.

Besides the little bit of info he revealed about the jet scrambling (which was asked by a caller), he basically said he couldn't answer or draw conclusions before the report was completed.

9. It should repeat later...
The best question was from a woman who asked why no jets were scrambled and why did bush* continue to read to second graders when it was apparent to the world we were under attack. He gave a terrible answer about us not being prepared for an attack here. We were in "cold war mode" expecting something from overseas?!?! WHITEWASH!!! :grr:
