some people here are starting to sound like outtakes from "Life of Brian" or something.
"We're not the Judean People's Front! We're the People's Front of Judea!"
"But we're all here to fight a common enemy, remember!"
"...The Popular People's Judean Front?"
"No, the Romans!"
"Oh, yeah, yeah, the Romans, right..."

to the Democratic party? There is always a few that have to question what there motives are. Take Wes Clark for instance, how some people bashed the shit out of him. Whats really ironic, were some of the same people that posted Clark bashing threads have recently posted threads admitting that they were wrong. They also admitted how much Wes actually contributed to our cause! I am a former republican, been posting here for approximately two years. You could even go so far as to call me a Southern Yellow Dog Dem! If you want this party to grow and become the majority again, you need to be willing to accept new people. Where are the new people going to come from, if not other parties, then where? So much for the big tent theory! I welcome anyone that will help rid us of this neocon plague that has swept the nation! Four more years of this shit and you can kiss Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness goodbye! End of rant!!!! :kick:

Ohio gay GOP official turns Democrat
Saying he can't stomach President Bush's support for the Federal Marriage Amendment (FMA), a gay Republican leader in Ohio announced on Thursday he is becoming a Democrat.
In a letter to the chair of the Republican Party of Cuyahoga County, John Farina, a former official in the county's party organization and former president of the Cleveland chapter of the Log Cabin Republicans (news - web sites), ended his 20-year association with the GOP. He also withdrew his candidacy for the Board of Elections' central committee in the March 2 primary.
<snip>
More than 1 million gay and lesbian Americans voted for George W. Bush in 2000, according to Log Cabin, but some of those votes are in jeopardy this year.
Farina said he knows of one other gay Republican, who wishes to remain anonymous, who quit the party since Tuesday. GOP desertions have also begun to register on the site of conservative blogger Andrew Sullivan.

Why would Gays and Lesbians vote for a repukelican homophobe? And over a MILLION voted for bu$h? I just don't get it. Why do so many people vote for the repukes.....don't they know they are voting for the party of intolerence who could give a shi* less about what happens to them and their needs? Dammit....I wish people would WAKE UP.

Yes it's a good thing for the Democrats but, as a foreigner, it's a bit strange to understand... First, I can't understand gays supporting GOP ! Are they all oil companies employees? ;) Now some of them want to change of party, good, but, did they really need the latest Boosh's interventions on the gay marriage subject to discover what the neocons really think about it and what they, secretly or not, deeply think about gays in general ??!!??

They "know" the the right hates them, but they also never expected that they would do anything to them about it. Many of them were content to take their tax cuts and felt comfortable looking down on the poor as inferior. Others are really Libertarians and are for government staying out of their lives, and free trade, less taxes, etc., and felt that repubs are for smaller government(or at least, they used to be). They made money with the repubs, and that was their main concern. Now that the repubs are bringing their well understood hate for them into the open, and threatening them legally, they have started looking at what might happen.

The Log Cabin Republicans provide a telling example of the dangers of reforming from within a party with rot growing at its core.
Those progressives who want to reform the Democratic party from within would do well to pay attention to the LCR's example of what not to do in that (quixotic?) quest.
EDIT: Welcome to DU, by the way. :)

I just wish the wingnuts would leave the privacy of their bodies to THEM! (i.e., abortion!)
The government DOES NOT HAVE ANY GOVERNMENT BUSINESS in people's bodies or bedrooms.....

Why they are against big government... because they are not in control of the govrnment and their life is controlled by those they feel should not.
Why they are for big government... because they are in control of the government and they control the lives of other people.

|
The more, the better. The Democratic Party is the one that is defending LGBT interests, not the Republicans. That's a fact, and even if for instance 20 or 30 years from now the GOP tries to be "pro-gay," 90% of us will remember the truth and will not support them. It's the same with Black people. Why would they support racists? Why should we support anti-gay bigots?

Rev Al Sharpton clearly defined this issue in a comment during the CA debate. "The issue is NOT who you go to bed with. The issue is do you have a job to go to when you get up in the morning."
