Federal judges in San Francisco, Nebraska and New York have issued temporary restraining orders blocking the law from taking effect.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, which has criticized the law, describes the procedure as a "rare variant" of a more common midterm abortion procedure known as "dilatation and evacuation."

Worried patients were calling Planned Parenthood's offices Friday asking about the privacy of their records as news of the subpoena spread, he said.

The Justice Department subpoena requests the past year's worth of records of surgical abortions performed 20 weeks or later after the woman's last menstrual period.

The subpoena allows patient names, addresses and other identifying information to be edited from the records before they are turned over to federal attorneys.

In addition to the San Diego/Riverside County Planned Parenthood affiliate, the Justice Department is seeking records from affiliates in Los Angeles, western Pennsylvania, Kansas/Mid-Missouri, New York City and the Washington, D.C., metro area.

1. Trying to win via intimidation again

since shooting doctors and other clinic workers has only made it difficult to get legal procedures and the courts made them stop getting in people's faces to harass them going into clinics.
