MSNBC news just reported
Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide has left Haiti. It is reported that he may have gone to the Dominican Republic. That's all I know at this time.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti - President Jean-Bertrand Aristide resigned and fled the country Sunday, bowing to pressure from a bloody rebellion at home and governments abroad. Gunfire rang out through the capital and black smoke billowed from the city center.

U.S. Ambassador to Haiti James Foley said that international military forces “will rapidly be in Haiti” to restore order there and urged the anti-Aristide rebels to lay down their arms.

Aristide’s prime minister, Yvon Neptune, said at a press conference that the ex-leader resigned to “prevent bloodshed.” A senior U.S. defense official said Aristide had submitted a formal resignation before leaving Haiti.

Supreme Court Justice Boniface Alexandre declared three hours later he was taking charge of the country under the constitution. He urged calm after more than three weeks of violence.

3. "His failure to adhere to democratic principles...
has contributed to the deep polarization and violent unrest..."

Is McClellan talking about Aristide or Bush?

4. Sounds more like Bush to me.
Can we dream and hope that Bush will leave also?

5. We would have to start acting like the Haitians to make Bush leave.
And even then, all he would do is call out the tanks to mow us down in the streets.

7. I'm pretty sure no one on here has quite the money to start
"acting like the Haitians". At least not the ones that are fomenting this whole thing and who it is supposed to benefit.

9. there are other reports
Edited on Sun Feb-29-04 11:11 AM by Aidoneus
that President Aristide has not, in fact, left the country.. there seems to be a very dedicated effort at deception, as these "regime change" operations have a tendency for.
