Planned Parenthood Refuses To Hand Over Records
Planned Parenthood Refuses To Hand Over Records

The San Diego chapter of Planned Parenthood (news - web sites) said it will not comply with a court order demanding it hand over hundreds of confidential medical records to the Justice Department (news - web sites), 10News reported.

Salo said the Department of Justice (news - web sites) overstepped its bounds three days ago when it subpoenaed confidential medical records regarding abortion patients.

"We're getting calls in our centers and our front reception desk from terrified patients saying, 'Will my name be given to the Justice Department?' Our answer to the question is, 'No,'" Salo said.

In the subpoena, attorneys for U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft (news - web sites) asked that San Diego and Riverside Planned Parenthood produce all records of surgical abortions performed 20 weeks after the last menstrual period in the last year.

about liberals?

Let me see...it's not liberals who:

-want to keep private records on everyone for everything...medical records.

What are they going to do? Announce it to the world that you had or your girlfriend, or your wife...had an abortion therefore, they should go to jail or be shunned by society?

If they did...I'd sock them with a huge law suit. It's a political "witch hunt" to intimidate women and use against their enemies for black mail.

These guys hate women...let's face it. Did women laugh at them in high school and college? Guess, I laugh at them now!!

Will they give past medical history to insurance companies so you can't get health coverage?

Does the President need to know what my cholesterol, glucose, etc. level is for national security? If they need information about a person's medical records, they should have permission to do so. They should get a warrant for a law case, etc. Will I go nuts and take out 20 people because my cholesterol is too high? Get real.

When Germany kept this much records, many were wrong..in error, used for the wrong purpose, etc.

It's all about profit for the Bush friends. It violates our civil right to privacy.

-Passed the Patriot Act I & II taking away our legal rights to a lawyer, trial, etc. Violated the Bill of Rights big time.

-Violated the Constitutional duties of the President and Congress without citizen permission (ratification). Bush taking taking almost king like powers for the President without a whimper from his own party members.

-Allowed the country to be attacked even though they were warned by foreign nations, FBI agents, etc.

-Robbed our treasury leaving us open to corporate raiders. We have to beg for loans from our enemies. It will taken the next generation to pay off the debt...no infrastructure improvements, research, etc.

-Lied about who did 9/11 to bring us to war attacking two innocent Middle Eastern countries (who already had suffered for many years). 500 dead soldiers and thousands missing limbs, eyes, etc. Some even committed suicide..or were killed.

-Whose leader just sat there and allowed people to jump out of building to their death without any concern. He could have stopped the attack on the Pentagon..there was a stand down.

-Made enemies of just about every nation on earth..negating treaties etc. that were there to protect us.

-Plundered the public treasury for his own use and refused to answer the Congress about where it went. Refusing to allow the cabinet members to tell either. Every government agency has to account to the people about where the money goes.

-Send contractors to Iraq, Afghanistan without open bidding...giving it only to his Friends at twice the cost.

-Puts our military in danger because they lack the right equipment, rest, and support.

-Commited enviornmental terrorism against our National Park system. air, water systems, resources, etc. to sell for profit.

-Sold off a lot of our Common Wealth without payback to the tax payers (who paid for it in the first place). Asks us to further suppport these power and energy thugs who plundered the wealth of these facilities for their own greed.

-Has trade deals that ruin us..not even fair. A trade organization that is about to replace our democracy. Now..that is a dictator.

ETC.

Whose the terrorist? NOT THE LIBERALS. Look at the speck in your own eye...RWers.

12. Planned Parenthood is pretty cool
this isn't the first time they've refused to turn over records.

When I was doing research in college on the effectiveness of AIDS education, the local clinic donated time, help and materials. I'll always be grateful - everybody else essentially told me to get lost, but not the women at the local clinic, they'couldn't be more helpful or have gotten more involved.

Whenever I have any cash to spare I send it to Planned Parenthood. At the risk of preaching, I'd advise everybody else to do so as well.

Think about this: they'll go to jail for you - which is exactly what will happen if these dedicated people are found in contempt of court for refusing to turn over the records.

Khash.

33. No prescription required study in Seattle
This was in the news last week here in the NW.

Seattle P-I - 'Seattle study allows pharmacists to prescribe contraceptives'

snip-

Starting today, Seattle-area women will have another new choice in birth control.

Eight local pharmacies will allow eligible women to walk in without an appointment or a prescription, answer some health questions and, in as little as 30 minutes, walk out with a three-month supply of birth control pills.

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/161705_birthcontrol23.html

You can get alcohol and cigarettes with no prescription. Birth control pills and patches should be sold over the counter.

11. wish I had more info on this
specifically what they are seeking, what is claimed to be needed for their lawsuit and how the two do not match. Have been on deadlines this week and have missed much of the discussion - any summary would be appreciated. At some point in the election period, when we are discussing the issues and the administration with fence sitters, info like this will be important to make the case - descriptively by actions - that agree or not with the admin on issues like abortion... the way the admin acts (ashcroft and others) is extalegal, has frightening consequences, and could easily be turned on a whole lot of citizens on whatever next crusade ashcroft decides to take.

It's a war against their own people for a religious agenda. It has little to do with Homeland Security.

15. great for them
We have the librarians bucking Ascroft and now also the Planned Parenthood. We have the gays telling Bush to stick it and going about their business as legitimate members of this society. Bush must be furious at all of this. It means he is not the dictator he thinks he is.

and where is Laura?

She was to be the, all of a suddenl, great little wifey, female analyst sent out by Bushie her dear husband to defend him and make people feel sorry for her and her "shyness". She is as much a wench as her MIL--she is thrust out, after her botox, eye lifts, and all of the rest as some sort of a pariah that women should imitate--and men should want to protect. That was the plan, so she is trotted out, suddenly, and we see her waxed face and rictus smile, complete with vacant platitudes quoted, defending him and his policies as she was ordered to do, although you know, she really did not want to "be involved in politics or make speeches" and now--does she not have something to say about this attack on the privacy of women who seek health care fo9r themselves?

She could say something --like it is "shocking" that "some" people want to keep their health, or abortion records private, and others actually try to prevent a good, religious AG like AShcroft the aluminum breast, impotent and fearful little man, if you would call him a man.

kudos to the Planned Parenthood. Things are becoming very very anxious and tight and my feeling is that they are on the brink of anarchy--may they take to the streets to let the world know that George Bush and his religious fanatic AG, in spite of all the prayer meetings that convene in the halls of our government under them that probably pray to go after women who are so sinful as to have sex, are not sane people at all.

22. Planned Parenthood is fighting for us all
If the courts allow Ashcroft access to women's medical records, everyone loses. When most of us visit our doctors, we assume that our records will remain confidential. We provide our doctors with information that we do not share with anyone else. Some people may even decide not to visit a doctor if they are afraid that government or law enforcement officials may read their records.

38. Join me in Washington, DC at the "March for Women's Lives"
I'm going to DC with some friends to participate in this effort to stop the assault on women's bodies and women's lives. The time has come for us to demand that the government stop interfering with women's reproductive rights!

http://www.saveroe.com/march/index.php

"The March for Women's Lives on April 25, 2004, promises to be one of the largest public demonstrations in support of reproductive freedom in history. We are organizing diverse delegations from around the world and we invite you to join us. If you're pro-choice, pro-privacy and pro-family, the March for Women's Lives is about you. Join us, as we demand reproductive and social justice for women at home and abroad.

Why march?

* Since taking office, the Bush administration, Congress, and state governments have launched a war on reproductive rights in the U.S. and around the world.
* The anti-choice movement very well may have within its reach a U.S. Supreme Court that will overturn Roe v. Wade.
* Efforts are underway to pack the federal courts with nominees dedicated to rolling back women's rights and ending legal abortion.

The March for Women's Lives will show Congress, the president, and other elected officials that their vicious assault on women's health and on access to safe, legal abortion is opposed by a strong, united majority of Americans. You can help make this event the strongest demonstration of support for reproductive freedom ever. "

44. when is was in my mid-20's
I worked at the health department in a very conservative community. There was a big controversy over Planned Parenthood giving abortion information out during this period. One quiet afternoon a 60-65 year old man came in and he confidently, very hesitatingly, nervously, not using the exact words but humm, and you know and such and such explained to me that he knew of a young girl who "in trouble" and where could he go for "you know what" information and such. (He was quite obviously a plant of some sort pro-life group looking for information.) I listened attentively and urged him on saying oh yes, oh..how sad, yes I understand. I finally said, "I don't know what to tell you. You will not find any place in this community that will give you any of that type of information. Planned Parenthood certainly will not cuz they are already in a great deal of trouble cuz people think they have been doing that. His eyes grew a little wide and I continued, I would think all they would do is maybe suggest you go to (a local very large community) and asked around there cuz I know you will not find anything of that nature discussed in this community.

I think the sob believed me. These people are so arrogant and pompous that I wonder if it even occurred to him that he was not fooling me. That is their achilles heel, their arrogance.
