Updates on the Situation in Iran: One Girl killed last night - 32 killed so far
Source: Iran Human Rights

1. According to reliable sources in Iran, a 10 years old girl was killed under the clashes in relation with the last nights pro-democracy demonstration in Tehran. The incident took place in teh Vanak area of Tehran. We are investigating further details.

2. According to "Human Rights Activists in Iran" at least 32 people have been killed since the demonstrations begun on Saturday.

3. One day after aksing the foreign journalists to leave Iran, Iranian authorities have put further restrictions on all means of communication. It has been reported that police has been going from house to house seizing satelite dishes.

I can't imagine why a Government that released false election results would release false death statistics...

1. so sad, this is going to be another Iranian revolution.
Iranians are fighting for their votes and their voice. And restricting the press from reporting is showing some of us how cowardly their regime is.

3. All news coming out
Edited on Wed Jun-17-09 01:57 PM by dipsydoodle
refers to Tehran only which is Mousavi's base. There is no news from the rest of the country so its difficult to judge exactly what the situation is over there. It doesn't necesarily follow that the mood is universal.

This Washington Post article explains a bit : http://disc.yourwebapps.com/discussion.cgi?disc=35812;article=46595;title=Iranmehr

BTW : The bulk of Iran's population are below the poverty line, or were so 4 years ago, and broadly speaking they are Ahmadinejad's base.

And this thread from below shows that there's stirrings going on elsewhere. Admittedly this report is about students across the country, but wasn't it students who started the last revolution?

8. Talking of Sky News...
I saw this earlier and refrained from posting it as they seemed to be the only ones saying Mousavi is calling for a "mass rally" rather than a "day of mourning"...

10. I saw mention of that live earlier
All of his supporters are to wear black for tomorrows rally.

BTW both Sky and the Beeb have mentioned that Mousavi is a completely unknown quantity as far as the west is concerned which helps explain why Washington is sitting on the side lines over this.

7. These folks are very brave.
They beleive their votes have been stolen, thrown away and that the Government is lying to them. And they will not suffer that. Unbeleivably brave.

12. Saw this on Huffington Post:..
2:51 PM ET -- Iran prosecutor warns of death penalty for violence. The New York Times reports:

The sense of threat against the opposition was growing. Reuters reported that Mohammadreza Habibi, the senior prosecutor in the central province of Isfahan, had warned demonstrators that they could be executed under Islamic law.

"We warn the few elements controlled by foreigners who try to disrupt domestic security by inciting individuals to destroy and to commit arson that the Islamic penal code for such individuals waging war against God is execution," Mr. Habibi said, according to the Fars news agency. It was not clear if his warning applied only to Isfahan or the country as a whole, Reuters said.
