CIA Delays Release of Inspector General Report on Torture
Source: ACLU

NEW YORK - June 19 - The CIA informed the American Civil Liberties Union that it would delay by one week its release of a reprocessed version of the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) report on the CIA's interrogation and detention program. The CIA turned over a heavily redacted version of the report in May 2008 as part of an ACLU Freedom of Information Act lawsuit, but on May 28, 2009, informed the court that it would review the same report with a view toward disclosing more information.

In a letter to the ACLU today, the government said it "will need additional time to make a final determination as to what additional information, if any, may be disclosed from the report."

The following can be attributed to ACLU attorney Amrit Singh:

"We are disappointed by the delay in the disclosure of this report which contains critical information about the illegality and ineffectiveness of the CIA's interrogation program. We can only hope that this delay is a sign that the forces of transparency within the Obama administration are winning over the forces of secrecy and that the report will ultimately be released with minimal redactions. The CIA should not be permitted to use national security as a pretext for suppressing evidence of its own unlawful conduct. The American people have a right to know the full truth about the torture program that was authorized in their name."

1. In some regard, I think with everything going on in Iran, this might be a good thing

If this is to get some real review by the American people, they had better be focused on it and not on a dozen other things - like North Korea, Iran, etc. But I may be naive.

4. Prove It!
From the White House website:

Transparency -- President Obama has committed to making his administration the most open and transparent in history, and WhiteHouse.gov will play a major role in delivering on that promise. The President's executive orders and proclamations will be published for everyone to review, and that’s just the beginning of our efforts to provide a window for all Americans into the business of the government.

5. Who cares
As Cheney would say, "So"? Nothing will ever be done about it. So what right do we have to say anything to any country regarding human rights or fair elections. We might as well be the old Soviet union as far as being Democratic or Christian-like goes. This world is messed-up. We have no moral high ground to stand on. Let there be war, famine, disease, indefinite detention with out charges. It will be like America never had founding fathers with a vision of advancing civilization. We have Dick Fucking-Cheney's vision of the future. He's the greatest American who ever lived, right? If you didn't guess...:sarcasm:
