AG Ayotte resigns, eyes Senate run

CONCORD – New Hampshire Attorney General Kelly A. Ayotte resigned today, effective July 17, "to explore a campaign for the United States Senate."

Other Republicans considering a run include Manchester attorney Ovide Lamontagne, a former member of the state Board of Education, and Rich Ashooh, a vice president at BAE Systems.

U.S. Rep. Paul W. Hodes, a two-term Democrat representing the 2nd District, is already running for his party’s nomination

In NH, the atorney general is appointed by the governor, subject to approval by the five member Executive Council. Gov. Lynch had just re-appointed Ayotte a few months ago.
