Yet another new flu virus emerges in Canada

SASKATOON, Saskatchewan (Reuters) – Canadian officials said on Tuesday they had identified yet another new flu virus, this one a mixture of human and swine influenzas, in two farm workers in Western Canada.

The new virus did not make the two workers seriously ill and is not related to the current H1N1 pandemic influenza strain, the Public Health Agency of Canada said.

The two workers, both employees at a hog barn operation in the province of Saskatchewan, have fully recovered. A third case is under investigation.

2. I was at my doctor's yesterday

for my annual checkup, and his nurse really recommended a flu shot this year. She's never done that before and since she also works in the Infectious Disease Unit, I am taking her warning seriously. She said it wasn't specifically related to H1N1, but that this year's vaccination was going to be "necessary".

4. She didn't happen to mention how much they paid for the vaccine did she, or what their profit margin

is? That stuff is short dated and they need to move product.

5. No family physician makes a profit off flu vaccines

My husband carries it as a service so his patients don't have to go to yet another location to get it. Walgreens, etc can do it cheaper cause they buy in bulk. It is a pain in the patootie to buy it and stock it in the office not to mentioned an additional expense.

That comes out this fall, not last years product. Sorry if I didn't make that clear.
