Feds arrest 30, seize 200 dogs in dog-fight raids

WASHINGTON (AP) — Authorities have arrested about 30 people and seized about 200 dogs in dogfighting raids Wednesday across three states, the Justice Department said.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which cooperated in the investigation, said the target was believed to be the largest dogfighting operation in U.S. history. The raids by task forces involving federal, state and local law enforcement agencies were conducted across Missouri, southern Illinois and eastern Texas after a nine-month investigation.

Bales said a veterinarian was onsite to care for the dogs, along with representatives of the Humane Society. Bales said he's filed motions to put the dogs in the care of the Humane Society and has asked a judge to order those charged in the case to reimburse the organization for the cost.

Yes, there are many, many dogs desperate for homes that never were put through the hell that these poor dogs have been through. They deserve to be loved as much as the rest of the dogs.

I am not just saying that either I mean it! I could not imagine dropping my dogs off at the pound simply because money is tight or because they are no longer cute puppies. Some people simply do not have any compassion at all when it comes to other animals. But thats life, huh?

In all the martial arts movies, one of the biggest glorifications of violence, these fighters are watched by people in formal wear, tuxes and evening gowns. The creme de la creme.

That is fiction, of course. What is the reality of dog fighting and its supporters?

I can only visualize people too dumb to make it into the cast of Deliverance. The kind of action where the evening's big jackpot is five dollars. Smelly, dark locations infused with the odor of feces and blood. You know, a typical Republican strategy meeting.
