McNair taped suicide prevention ad before death
Source: CNN News

(CNN) -- Former NFL quarterback Steve McNair taped a youth suicide prevention public service announcement before he was fatally shot in a murder-suicide, Tennessee health officials said.

The Tennessee health officials were "developing a PSA with Steve McNair, but it never reached the point of being aired. And it seems broadcasting it now is not only inappropriate, but doesn't serve the community, his family or memory -- or the issue we hoped the PSA would help address," said Jill Hudson, a spokeswoman for Tennessee's Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities.

Authorities have said that McNair was fatally shot by his mistress, who then killed herself. McNair was married and had four children.

The bodies of McNair, 36, and Sahel Kazemi, 20, were found in a condominium on Saturday afternoon in downtown Nashville, authorities said.

There was a public memorial for McNair on Thursday at several locations in Tennessee.

1. Somebody needs to do a PSA
about the dangers of fucking around on your spouse. Or, if you prefer, the dangers of meeting lovers when they bring their family to dinner where you work.

2. How about people not messing around with other people's emotions
McNair who was 16 years older than this woman toyed around with her emotions to get into her pants.

Doesn't matter if you are a man or a woman, don't screw around with people's emotions. You never know what the consequences may be.

Perfectly normal people have found their lives turned upside down by "love" with the wrong person. Sadly this young woman thought her only recourse was to take his and her life.

3. On a local (Nashville) radio show this morning a caller gave this McNair story.
The caller worked with an inner-city youth football program, and were allowed to bring all 60 of his kids to the Titans practice facility. Jeff Fisher came in first, spoke to the coaches, waved at the kids, welcomed them to practice, and went about his business......McNair was next out of the tunnel. He walked over to the kids, asked if he could talk to them, and spent the next 10 minutes telling them what his education meant to him, how they should study hard and obey their parents, etc..one of the kids asked for an autograph on his camp shirt. Steve lined up all 60 and each got his or her camp shirt signed, then he took all of the practice footballs, signed them, and sent them back home with the camp coaches for their silent auction fundraiser.

Was Steve McNair a saint? Of course not, aren't many of those around. But he did a lot more public good than his personal failings, and as the preacher said at his funeral last night, let those of us who haven't sinned cast the first stone.

4. No one is suggesting that McNair was perfect

This story is typical of what McNair meant to the Nashville community. Despite his personal failings - and yes, the affair with a girl 16 years his junior is a big one - McNair was a hero to a lot of people for not only his actions on a football field, but in the community.

5. Everyone makes mistakes
We hope they are not fatal. Sadly his mistake was. It is such a loss for everyone involved and people whose lives he touched.

6. Huh? Either it was ready to be aired or it wasn't
If it was already taped, and it was at the point where it was ready for broadcast, it was OUT of "development!"

7. BTW was the girlfriend taking anything like Prozac?
That was the first thing came into my mind. Those things really seem to make bad seem horrible and makes people violent.
