Batch of drug central to Jackson probe recalled
Source: Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Federal drug enforcement officials have contacted the maker of the powerful anesthetic propofol (PRO-puh-fall) as part of their investigation into Michael Jackson's death.

A spokeswoman for Teva Pharmaceuticals says the Drug Enforcement Administration asked the company about a specific batch of the drug.

Teva voluntarily recalled two lots of propofol after investigators found bacterial contamination in some samples caused up to 40 patients in Florida, Arizona and Missouri to develop fevers and chills.

Teva spokeswoman Denise Bradley says the DEA asked about a different batch of the drug than what the company recalled. Propofol is the generic version of Diprivan. The anesthetic normally used in hospitals was found in Jackson's home after his death June 25.

1. As somebody who's just barely survived septic shock
I can tell you that a bacterial infection can turn very nasty very quickly. If this is what happened to Jackson, it wasn't that bad a way out but it certainly was a swift and certain one.

Bacterial contamination of a short acting anesthetic he was using to get to sleep at night would certainly have done it since that anesthetic has to be given into the vein.

This is the brand name of the drug. I wonder who makes the generic of it?

Odd at best.

6. My cynicism seems to be well founded in reality
The trouble is, I don't want to be cynical, but the evidence that we must be is everywhere.

Is this the marvelous worker "Productivity" they bellow at us all the time? So productive, that nobody notices the housefly mixed into the latest batch of drugs.

After all, if it's automated you can cut employees and save lots of money.
