US Military Behind Honduras Coup - Bolivia's Morales
Source: AFP

Bolivian leader Evo Morales has accused the U.S. military of being behind the coup in Honduras, saying the "imperial structure remains in force," despite President Barack Obama's inauguration.

"I have first-hand information that the empire, through the U.S. Southern Command, made the coup d'etat in Honduras," President Morales said during a visit to the Uruguayan capital Montevideo.

Morales and Uruguayan President Tabare Vazquez asserted in a joint statement their "support for democratic institutions in Honduras, the legitimate government of President Jose Manuel Zelaya Rosales."

The pair added that they "do not recognize any other authority that emerged from violating the constitutional order in that country."

28. Not really. Obama has said all the right things but
our ambassador is still there and millions still flowing into the country.

Saying nice stuff isn't all that effective either, especially when Hillary Clinton's people are advising the coup.

It's not pretty.

34. LGBTs know that Obama says the right things, but his actions speak louder than his sweet words
So it takes little effort on our part to recognize another betrayal or another game of double talk from this government.

9. As Bolivia's President, he just may know more than you do about this.
Why have you never taken the time to look into the history of US actions in Latin America? Are you completely oblivious?

Here's only ONE of the US-assisted Bolivian monster "Presidents," from a short history written in 1995, before he was the President again, and responsible for another massacre:
COLONEL HUGO BANZER
President of Bolivia
In 1970, in Bolivia, when then-President Juan Jose Torres nationalized Gulf Oil properties and tin mines owned by US interests, and tried to establish friendly relations with Cuba and the Soviet Union, he was playing with fire. The coup to overthrow Torres, led by US-trained officer and Gulf Oil beneficiary Hugo Banzer, had direct support from Washington. When Banzer's forces had a breakdown in radio communications, US Air Force radio was placed at their disposal. Once in power, Banzer began a reign of terror. Schools were shut down as hotbeds of political subversive activity. Within two years, 2,000 people were arrested and tortured without trial. As in Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil, the native Indians were ordered off their land and deprived of tribal identity. Tens-of-thousands of white South Africans were enticed to immigrate with promises of the land stolen from the Indians, with a goal of creating a white Bolivia. When Catholic clergy tried to aid the Indians, the regime, with CIA help, launched terrorist attacks against them, and this "Banzer Plan" became a model for similar anti-Catholic actions throughout Latin America.

20. Be Careful, Facts and History can be so upsetting to the Cheerleaders
Personally, I admire Evo Morales, and so do his people. Especially in light of their attempts in protecting the dwindling cultural identity of the indigenous people.

We export disastrous agricultural, economic and political systems for purely Corporate gain, and cannot tolerate any poor country that decideds to step out on it's own.

It is when these attempts are brutally squashed by the Oligarchs that we see the true nature of the illusion of democracy.

The game is rigged, and we make the rules. And we'll be the first to throw a punch at anybody that catches us cheating.

6. A little more in the Latin America forum
from a different news source, posted by magbana:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=405x18876

<snip>

“Even though the American president might not know it, the empire’s
structure is still in force,” added Morales, who noted that what nearly
happened last year in his country, a civil coup, “is now taking place in
Honduras,” reported Prensa Latina.
What happened in the Central American nation is “an aggression, a
provocation of the Empire,” said the Bolivian president.
“However, the people have historically defeated the empires,
different empires,” said Morales and later he urged Latin American
countries to “think of how people live under dictatorships.”

The Latin America forum has a lot more on the coup: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=405

At any rate this removal was sanctioned by the Honduran congress and supreme court approved it so this is just a damn conspiracy theory and if it's true then good for them.

8. Hmm... Could he be confusing USSOUTHCOM with SOCOM?
Actually, they would both be in on it if Morales is correct.

I'm beginning to wonder if this is the first Republican-orchestrated coup, conducted independently of the U.S. federal government through its stay-behind criminal network.

Hugo Llorens is a Cuban exile, appointed by Bush, and kept by Obama. Llorens knew of the coup weeks before it took place. He is still in place while the EU and OAS have recalled their ambassadors.

He's probably still in charge of a great deal of mayhem throughout the world. One reason I would like to see Holder prosecute him is to get some idea of how wide his reign of terror reaches.

19. Whether bluster or not, there's a reason people don't doubt the truth in this.
The US has sanctioned or even implemented so many coups over the years. The fact is that the US ADMITTED knowing about this coup in advance. Why was Zelaya's government not warned? That, in itself, makes the US an accomplice. Whether or not it was the US military directly engaged, I have no idea.
