HAVANA, July 14 (Xinhua) -- The Latin American Federation of Journalists (FELAP) on Tuesday condemned Honduras' expulsion of foreign reporters for their critical reports of the coup that forced President Manuel Zelaya into exile.
Reporters from TeleSur and Venezolana Television had been reportedly persecuted for their critical view on the coup, which has been harshly blamed in Latin America. The reporters were expelled from Honduras on Saturday.
The majority of Latin American countries demanded an immediate restoration of the deposed President Zelaya and return of his presidential power. Some countries have pulled their ambassadors out of the country.
FELAP directors Juan Carlos Camano and Tubal Paez said here on Tuesday that the organization denounced the expulsion of foreign journalists.
The post-coup leader Roberto Micheletti and the head of the Honduran Armed Forces, General Romeo Vazquez, were responsible for the repressions and humiliations against the reporters, said a FELAP statement.
