World's oldest mother dies at 69 (gave birth at 66)
Source: BBC

A Spanish woman who became the world's oldest new mother when she gave birth in 2006 to twin boys at the age of 66 has died, her family has said.

The brother of Maria del Carmen Bousada de Lara told the paper Diario de Cadiz she passed away on Saturday, aged 69.

It said she had been diagnosed with cancer shortly after giving birth.

In 2007, Ms Bousada de Lara said she had lied about her age to doctors at a fertility clinic in California to get IVF treatment, telling them she was 55....

3. Very very sad.
I do wonder whether the hormonal treatments that she had and/or the effects of pregnancy contributed to her cancer. I can't think that this would be all that safe at her age.

Or it might just be coincidence.

In any case, a tragedy for her, and for the little boys who will grow up without a mother.

4. If she was 55, her children would have been 14 now.
She lied, leaving others to clear up the mess. Pure narcissism: It's what I want that counts and damn the torpedoes.

5. There are no guarantees for any woman going through pregnancy
and childbirth. These are dangerous things to do, even if they are natural things to do.

One wonders if the hormone treatments spurred the tumor growth and shortened her life. It's certainly been known to happen in far younger women desperate to have children.

Ms. Bousada de Lara really thought she'd have the same 101 years her mother had. Perhaps she would have if she hadn't had the child. Perhaps she would have found it a bad bargain.

7. Why the condemnation so broadly cast?
While I agree that it was selfish and short-sighted to use artificial means to give birth at the age of 66, there's still the matter of a woman dead of cancer (not a good way to go) and two little boys orphaned. A little compassion might go down well.

My condolences to her family.

9. Compassion for children orphaned too young (odds are) is one of the reasons
people find parents like this narcissistic. No one is happy she got cancer, but that would have happened with or without her orphaning two kids. then again, I know my son prefers to have been born, no matter what. Maybe they will feel the same.

8. How sad for those two little boys
They have lost their mother. How heartbreaking for her to have known that she would be leaving her two sons while they are toddlers, never getting the chance to grow up with their mom around.

10. "Ms Bousada de Lara said she had lied about her age to doctors at a fertility clinic in California
And they didn't bother to check her ID? Really? I'm almost 29 and I still get carded every time I want to buy a six pack.

Close that clinic down.
