Teen Cheyenne Cherry taunts animal activists after guilty plea for killing kitten in oven
Source: New York Daily News

A heartless kitty killer hissed angrily at animal rights activists Wednesday, grinning widely as she took credit for stuffing the helpless pet into a 500-degree oven.

"It's dead, bitch!" snapped an unrepentant Cheyenne Cherry, sticking her tongue out after a plea bargain that will put her behind bars for a year in the May 6 killing of tiny Tiger Lily.

Cherry, 17, was confronted after her guilty plea in Bronx Supreme Court to charges of animal cruelty and attempted burglary in the May 6 killing at her former roommate's apartment.

Tiger Lily was left to die inside the blistering oven after Cherry and a 14-year-old friend trashed the apartment of Valerie Hernandez, destroying furniture before stealing DVDs and food. After her arrest, Cherry told police the cat killing was "just a joke."

26. I'm basing this "solution" on what is currently theorized about sociopaths.
There is something intrinsically wrong with them that cannot be fixed. If they don't learn rules of behavior early (and this one clearly did not) then they will always be a danger to others weaker than themselves.
(Her next victim is likely to be a child, a disabled person, or an elderly person).

So, the most merciful thing for both society and her is that she be kept OUT of society, and given mind-altering drugs that will hopefully somewhat control her behavior.

Research so far shows that sociopaths cannot be rehabilitated. Their lack of empathy for anyone or anything is extremely dangerous to those around them.

Really, it doesn't sit well with me to say that some people can't be helped, but that's what is currently believed about these cases. Unless there has been a recent development that I haven't heard of.

So please inform me.

5 years hard labor prisons are too soft on criminals. They should be working, growing their own food and spending
their time working hard to improve the community. Sitting in a cell all day watching Oprah does no one good and isnt
repaying your debt to society.

Compassion training

Psychological help

Intervention program

Medication if necessary.

Will it work? Most likely not but we can say we gave it the college try.

i certainly know of sociopaths who can turn it off and on if they realize that their behavior is going to earn them a harsh punishment -- right now she's just talking shit and putting up a false front of bravado -- her attitude might be a little different a year from now -- it is HIGHLY unusual for a female to progress to being a serial killer so maybe we can tone down the hysteria and the OMFG just a "tad" -- not all sociopaths kill, it is POSSIBLE for them to learn that killing will get them in a lot of trouble even if they can't learn empathy

there's something wrong with her, for sure, but there is also something wrong with us if we advocate for giving someone mind-altering drugs for life, we should just kill them (capital punishment) rather than destroy their brain FOR LIFE and i hope we can agree that capital punishment is just not quite right for killing a cat

on edit-- having read further, apparently we can't all agree that on the capital punishment thing, apparently some people are cool with having a convicted cat killer executed -- WTF? it's a cat, they are killed every day in shelters, you are just not going to be able to make a reasonable argument that killing a cat is worth the taking of a human life

Like it or not this woman is a human being, and advocating the torture of humans is NOT a liberal or progressive value. Liberals and progressives do not allow exceptions to core beliefs to satisfy emotional desires. THAT is a characteristic of the "other side". It is under these circumstances that our integrity is severely tested. To maintain the integrity of our ideology, we must apply the same standard to her we do the victims of Abu Ghraib.

Statistics say otherwise.

Ive volunteered for many years with youth organizations. Despite the social workers who 90% of the time are wrong and think "everyone can be saved" O8) That's their job though. The volunteers, volunteer cops, and parole officers can pretty much tell who's who and what they are going to become after about an hour and looking at their record.

The cold reality of the world today is in the inner cities you reach only a few the rest are beyond your help.

49. Being right in this instance
does not mean they're right on every instance.

For instance: Ron Paul voted against the Iraq war, therefore liberals shouldn't criticize his other stances on other subjects.

Peta came out against burning kittens alive on which we all agree, therefore comparing eating lobsters to the holocaust is correct and above criticism.

Animal rights activists go too far all the time and have more than their share of loons, that doesn't mean they're always wrong.

But it's simple hypocrisy when the reactions are not tied to any coherent theory on the subject, but simply to our culture's preference for animals we consider "cute" and keep as pets.

53. But I think a coherent theory can be devised
that is not hypocritical.

For instance; killing animals for our benefit is acceptable, killing them for no purpose is not. This is assuming you have a right to kill the animal at all, you may not kill someone elses pet even if you were planning on eating it later (excepting self defense).

If they are to be killed for our benefit it should be done as quickly and painlessly as possible.

And we should always keep a special eye on those who torture animals for fun (both to protect animals from needless harm and that's a pretty good indicator of mental health issues).

So I think it would be fine to criticize this woman for A) killing an animal that was someone elses pet in a B) particularly cruel manner for C) no other purpose than sadistic joy. And it would not be hypocritical to criticize her, while enjoying a delicious hamburger.

For example, you don't define "benefit," and you don't address the weighting of the benefit to one species vs. detriment to another.

Don't you think those are important elements in the ethical calculus of animal rights?

77. Took a stray in last year...
...when the weather got really bitter cold. I had been feeding him, and when chilly weather came along, I made a little shelter for him and put a hot-water bottle in it.

When the temps hit the teens, he came inside. The other two cats didn't mind too much. He's such a dear sweet kitty...sits on my lap and purrs. You'd never know he was an alley cat. :loveya:

81. i know....
this little thing. she's barely 9 pounds....tiny tiny tiny. We've been calling her "mow mow", 'cuz that's how she talks.
...and a cudle cat. We know she's over two years old.

Our other three are typically aloof, until they want an ear scratch. (The dog of course if ever jealous)
We are trying to find a home for this stray, but we will keep her as long as she needs a home.
She's the love bug. We finally found our cuddle cat, and now we have to find her a lap. :eyes:

The weird thing was...about a month ago...we had a bad storm come through, funnel clouds, the whole 9 yards.
That was the day she finally wanted to be "gotten". I think she knew how bad it would be that night.
She slept for 3 days when we got her. She'd only wake up to eat. She was exhausted.
These are pictures of her right before we got her to come inside with us.

Teen Cheyenne Cherry taunts animal activists after guilty plea for killing kitten in oven

RobRoy to WVKayaker

I killed a litter of kittens a few decades ago just before the family hopped in the car for our two week vacation to Disneyland. I put ‘em in a sack and smacked it a few times with a bat and then made sure they were all dead, then threw the sack in the garbage - the same place I put chicken bones and left over ribs.

Interestingly, I have never in my life had an urge to cause physical harm to ANY human being.

I understand the chasm that exists between the value of human beings and natural resources.

With malice or simply as a joke?
Do you avoid cauliflower because you dislike it, or because you're morally opposed to ingesting it?

These are precise and relevant differences, you see...

Possibly because it was not said with malice. It goes to intent you see. As I said previously, a precise and relevant difference.

Am I making the difference clear? I can try a few other ways (metaphor, small words, etc) if it helps you understand that in my opening position, the word "malice" was consciously placed with purpose and as a precise qualifier... :eyes:

Shoot her twice in the back of the head and make her corpse into cat food. She's proven herself to be an irredeemable danger to society by gleefully torturing a helpless animal, and leaving her alive ensures that she'll eventually kill a human being. Probably a little kid or an old person, since they're physically weaker.

(Myself, I'm in favor of killing her just for the kitten's sake, but some people won't be concerned unless humans are at risk.)

Someone asked on that horrific thread if it is normal for teenage boys to kill helpless animals, as the Freeper killer of defenseless kittens claimed he had done. I don't think so, but those who do cannot claim to be normal. Many serial killers have been found to have done these kinds of things when they were children and teenagers.

he studied was in for doing to her own infant what Cherry did to the kitten. It's not too broad a leap, folks; sociopaths start small and work their way up to larger and larger prey. As long as they perceive it as weaker than themselves, they'll try to do harm. Animal cruelty crimes MUST be taken extremely seriously, because the sick mindset is the same in either case.

she seems to have the potential to do real harm to a human in the future as well. Scary girl.
