3 U.S. soldiers killed in Basra (Iraq)

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Three U.S. soldiers were killed after the operations base in Basra came under indirect fire on Thursday (July 16), upping U.S. deaths during the past few days to five, the U.S. army in Iraq said on Friday.

“Three Multi-National Force-South (MNF-S) Soldiers were killed when the Emergency Operations Base in Basra came under indirect fire July 16,” according to a U.S. army release as received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

The statement did not give further details.

An official security source in Basra police had told Aswat al-Iraq that an attack with four Katyusha rockets targeted an MNF military base at the Basra International Airport, leaving three soldiers wounded.
