Former-Employee Speaking Out; Allegations Also Being Made Of Shoddy Care For Items Left At Graves By Families

WASHINGTON (CBS) ―
To be buried in Arlington National Cemetery is one of the highest honors reserved for America's fallen troops.

But, reports CBS News correspondent Kimberly Dozier, one former Arlington employee is charging that authorities there are having trouble tracking some of the graves.

...

Gina Gray, the ex-Arlington worker, told CBS News "Where people are buried is not matching the head stones, because they're using a paper record-keeping system, despite the fact that they've spent millions of dollars trying to automate the system."

...

She says she reported the continuing problems with record-keeping to the cemetery's then-commander, Maj. Gen. Richard Rowe, last year.

"Two days later," she said, "I was fired. And nothing happened."

Gray is now suing the Army.

2. Doesn't this subject come up every ten years or so?

I remember my late uncle talking about it.

Edit to add; Paper records have lasted for centuries, as we all know.
This is just bad management and excuses.

3. How hard could it be? It's not like there's a lot of turnover.

4. But then maybe there IS
in terms of families attempting to find a "certain spot" or a "better spot" (and to hell if someone else is already there).

6. nothing about this war is right..
Paul Riekopf from Iraq & Afghan Veterans of America (www.iava.org) was on the Ed Show, tonight... apparently the momentoes, letters, medals(!),from Section 60 are being found in dumpsters. These are very personal items heart-broken Loved Ones leave at the grave.
Paul & Ed are going to be "working together next week", they said, to Honor Our Military... not sure what's up with that, but knowing those 2, it'll be goood.

I saw a documentary not long ago about where Our Iraq Deceased are buried, "Section 60"(the area in Arlington Cemetary), I think is also the name of the doc. Well worth seeing, but painful. I cried & cussed & cursed bush-cheney thru the whole film.

Sabra, I don't post much, but I want You to know how much I always appreciate Your OPs... I know You have a sweeet place in Your Heart for Our Military, & a RIGHTEOUS anger at the misuse of Them.
Thank YOU.
