Rebel video hounds Ecuador's Correa
Source: AP

BOGOTA – An hour-long video police found in a computer of an alleged rebel appears to confirm that Colombia's largest rebel army gave money to the 2006 election campaign of President Rafael Correa of Ecuador.

The video shows the second-ranking commander of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia reading the deathbed manifesto of founding leader Manuel "Sureshot" Marulanda. The manifesto states that FARC made contributions to Correa's campaign, but it's possible that Correa wasn't aware of them.

The video, given to The Associated Press by a government official on condition of anonymity due to political sensitivity, adds weight to evidence found in a half-dozen electronic documents recovered at a rebel camp destroyed in a cross-border raid last year. Correa has accused Colombia of fabricating the documents, despite an investigation by the global police agency Interpol that determined they were not altered.

The same rebel manifesto turned up on a different rebel computer recovered in October. But in the video it is read aloud by Jorge Briceno, a member of the FARC's ruling secretariat and No. 2 commander, which will make it harder to deny.

1. The proper response should be
"Sure, I took money from the anti-facists in Colombia, so what. The US Govt channels millions of dollars into pro-fascist political parties all over Latin America. I don't know why that should be OK and this should be wrong."

2. This has been rumored for several years
FARC funding of Correa's campaign has been one of the explanations why he's not taken more aggressive actions against them in Ecuador.

4. "Hounds"?
Who writes this crap? Is it possible for a video to be "fabricated" without it also being "altered"? Why yes, yes it is.

7. New Anti-Ecuador Campaign in Colombia (a response to DU's gusanos)
New Anti-Ecuador Campaign in Colombia

Quito, Jul 18 (Prensa Latina) Ecuador is facing a new slanderous campaign from Colombia aimed at linking President Rafael Correa with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

Ecuadoran Security Minister Miguel Carvajal called déjà vu a video showing an alleged FARC leader who claims he had given money to Correa following the March 1, 2008 Colombia military raid against a FARC guerrilla camp within Ecuadoran borders.

They are not only trying to link our government to the FARC but to smear our anti-drug and anti-paramilitary policies, Carvajal stated.

The Ecuadoran cabinet official warned that the video broadcasts coincide with an arrest warrant an Ecuadoran judge issued against Colombian former minister Juan Manuel Santos for his direct involvement in the attack against the FARC camp at the border with Ecuador.

He added that he is not surprised by the coincidence of the broadcasts with the closing of the US air base in Manta, Ecuador.

14. The progressive position is the EU and OAS position
The FARC video is CIA disinformation related to US pulling out of Manta, and US plans to use Colombia as a springboard for military action in Latin America. Yep, the Obama Administration has adopted Reaganism for this continent.

16. FARC narcodollars have a noxious effect
Edited on Sat Jul-18-09 12:11 PM by Zorro
Dollarization has made it much easier for FARC to use their funds for their own criminal intent in Ecuador (including corruption of public officials).

One could make a logical inference that closing Manta Base was done to serve FARC's interest, since it reduces drug interdiction capabilities.

21. Already done. Revolution starts in the heart.
I hope I'm alive when it takes hold, as will most definitely happen. Will your head then spin so hard it flies off your body? Will you move to Miami?

Dream on, sisters of the revolution! The people of Kokomo have nothing to lose but their chains!

And no, I'm not planning a move to Miami in my lifetime. I prefer Sarasota, anyway.

The closest you'll ever get to a revolution is by ordering "Che" from Netflix.

31. I don't patronize Netflicks, and don't watch many films.
Like I said, mock if you must. I never thought I'd see revolution here during my lifetime, but I never thought I'd see a black President during my lifetime. So I certainly won't give up hope.

As far as being an armchair revolutionary, I'm no such thing. I'm an American citizen who is far to the left of you, and belong to the Socialist party because the Democrats are too centrist for me now. Don't be such a hater, it's so unbecoming.

More people now agree with Socialism than ever before. That's only going to grow. Slowly? Probably. But I confess a mean spirited wish for it to happen during YOUR lifetime, if only to watch your head explode! LOL

20. The video of the 'FARC commander' is CIA disinformation
There is evidence that Colombia will be used as a launch site for US military incursions in other Latin American countries in order to reestablish American hegemony in the Hemisphere.

the rest it's just a result of the pleasure drug users get when they get their Colombian stuff.
I would like to see a US day with out drugs just to see those violent group in colombia including the corrupt government crumble into their own hole full violance and genocide.

Wait, are we going to legalize drugs soon?
