Obama, Mormon leader meet in Oval Office
Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama has met with the leader of the Mormon church.

Obama and the president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Thomas S. Monson, met in the Oval Office on Monday. Monson gave Obama a detailed genealogical history, as the church has done for other U.S. presidents.

Obama says he is grateful for the records and that he looks forward to reading through the material with his two daughters. He says his family will treasure the records for years to come.

It was the first face-to-face meeting between Monson and Obama.

3. LOL. How did you narrow "moron" down to one Republican, though? (So many morons, so little time.)

with everyone else in Obama's family tree.

I understand the gift Obama received was a 8 volume set of books, leather bound, containing his geneaology.

I understand why Jews object, but I personally see no harm in it. And it is well-intentioned-so all families can be together in the after-life. If you believe it in the Mormon view of the after-life, you can be grateful for the baptisms. If not, it's not hurting you.

17. Genealogy is one of my favorite hobbies, and anyone can enjoy it.
In most people's cases they aren't doing it for religious doctrinal reasons, either, lol. My family has deep Mormon roots, but my grandparents and dad and the rest of us are/were about as religious as my cats, and not remotely Mormon.

Finding black sheep is one fun part of it. As is finding you are related to, say, your head assistant (as I did a couple of years ago).

I hope so, since, FSM is about as valid as mormonism, xtianity or any other religion.

16. President Obama and I are 7th or 8th cousins through our common
Allred ancestors, who came from NC via TN and MO. Most of them joined the Mormons and were dedicated, proliferative polygamists. His branch didn't join up, IIRC.
