Bare beachgoers now say they will appeal last month's setback to the state Supreme Court, but they already are being warned that they are breaking the law. Park officials say they will begin issuing citations after Labor Day.

Attorney Allen Baylis, one of the people who brought the lawsuit against the state, said the public deserves to have the rules clarified.

He also said a potential fine could end up costing someone $400 or $500.

1. Why not set aside a portion of the beach for nude sunbathers?

I just don't get this country's puritanical silliness. Walking through the Tiergarten in Berlin or Vondelpark in Amsterdam, nudity is not uncommon - and nobody bats an eye. (except for the gawking tourists from puritanically silly countries like ours)

8. Isn't that the beach where people have to climb up a promontory and look over the edge

to be offended by naked people on the secluded beach? Guess the gawkers were getting too old to manage the climb so they could be all offended 'n stuff. Can't let people be nekkid where they can't keep an eye on 'em anymore I guess.

12. As far as I know, it was never actually legal to go nude at San Onofre,

but it was so secluded that it was rarely patrolled. The parking lot was the old highway, that had been bypassed by the freeway. It was a long hike from the parking lot to the beach, down a cliff, and it wasn't really clear whether the beach was under the jurisdiction of State Parks or the Marine Corps. A ranger did catch me sunbathing nude, once, and just asked me to put my swimsuit on. That was back in the early '70s.

The water was so deliciously warm! It ceased being my favorite beach, and warm water, when I realized WHY the water was so much warmer in that location...
