Marines charged in rape of girl, 12
Source: Honolulu Star-Bulletin

A Kaneohe Marine and two other Marines on the mainland have been charged in Oklahoma with first-degree rape of a 12-year-old girl....

Kinshella is among several Marines accused of having sex with the sixth-grade girl as part of what investigators call a bizarre and disturbing sex scandal, according to a Lawton (Okla.) Constitution report. The Marines were attending the U.S. Marine Battery at Fort Sill, Okla., which serves as a temporary school for Marines who take classes and undergo training....

Comanche County District Attorney Fred Smith told the Army Times early this month that Rivera, of Fletcher, Okla., befriended the Marines after her husband deployed to Iraq, partying with them regularly. She began bringing the girl to the parties in March, with several Marines having sex with her until recently, Smith told the Army Times....

The newspaper added that authorities believe several more Marines sexually assaulted the girl over several months, and they are working on tracking them down since they are no longer at Fort Sill.

Several Marines? No longer at Fort Sill? Where are they, then? Iraq? Afghanistan? :scared:

The few... the proud... not today.

1. What the heck?
"Authorities allege 33-year-old Amy Rivera had befriended the girl and taken her to parties with the Marines at a hotel, the Constitution reported. The newspaper said Rivera was charged June 29 with procuring a child for lewdness or other indecent acts. Her bail was set at $7,500."

What 33 year old befriends 6th graders and what parents allow their 6th grade daughter to runaround with a 33 year old?

14. "What 33 year old befriends 6th graders and what parents
allow their 6th grade daugter to runaround with a 33 year old?"

Well, anyone participating in a Big Brothers/Big Sisters program might. The thing isn't allowing a 33 year old to befreind your child, it's monitoring what they do with the time being spent with your child. And, sometimes, no matter how careful you are, things can still happen. There are a lot of stories of trusted friends and familly members who have assaulted children.

I hold Rivera and the participating marines at fault.

18. Considering the parents have been brought up on charges
per the article. You may also want to lend some blame toward the parents.

9. Hey....
...why don't we blame the entire Liberian country for the actions of 4 boys (all Liberians) that gangraped an 8 year old this week in Arizona (I think that is where it was)???

See how that works?

15. Yes, WARRIORS.
That you lump all Marines in with these obvious ne'er-do-wells tells me you're either 100% anti-military or just plain stupid. Marines like me are incensed at this blot on our collective honor, just as you (I assume, since you're on DU) are incensed at the blot on our nation's honor brought on by the rape of an entire nation by the previous administration.

No Marine I know would be proud to be associated with such. It's hardly glorious. You need to stand down and think before you run your fat yapper and impugn the honor of the entire Corps over these few.

10. No, turn them over to a court of law..
Civilian if they have been discharged, military if they are still active.

Everyone deserves justice and the presumption of innocence under the law, no matter how heinous the crime, otherwise we become no more than a lynch mob.

Fumesucker, inactive Marine with a son in law who is also an inactive Marine and a daughter who was a Marine wife.

16. That's cool, thanks for standing up for Marines..
There are a great many honorable Marines, and quite a few that are jerks.

I like to think I and my son in law fall into the first category. :)

and I've been sending care packages to troops and Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan for five years - I'm more likely to receive lovely thank you letters from Marines than all others - and I'm a USAF vet :D

19. Why does the paper refer to a child rape victim as "having
sex with" the rapist? That is so vile.
