Obama Hawaii born, insist Isle officials
Source: Honolulu Advertiser

In an attempt to quash persistent rumors that President Obama was not born in Honolulu on Aug. 4, 1961, Hawaii's health director reiterated this afternoon that she has personally seen Obama's birth certificate in the Health Department's archives.

"I, Dr. Chiyome Fukino, director of the Hawai'i State Department of Health, have seen the original vital records maintained on file by the Hawai'i State Department of Health verifying Barrack Hussein Obama was born in Hawai'i and is a natural-born American citizen. I have nothing further to add to this statement or my original statement issued in October 2008 over eight months ago...."

<snip>

A congressional resolution introduced by Hawaii Rep. Neil Abercrombie commemorating the 50th anniversary of Island statehood was postponed today apparently because of a "whereas" clause noting Obama's Hawaii birthplace.

The line "Whereas the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, was born in Hawaii on August 4, 1961;" has been construed by some who believe Obama is not a U.S.-born citizen as a thinly veiled attempt to get Congress to affirm Obama's U.S. citizenship.

<snip>

Abercrombie's office had already issued a statement today announcing the House's unanimous approval of Abercrombie's resolution when Minnesota Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann rose today to object to the vote, saying there was not a quorum present.

18. Why doesn't the Present just release
Why doesn't the Present just release the long form of his birth certificate naming the doctor, hospital etc?
That would make the nutty birthers all look like the fools that they are.

21. That wouldn't silence the fools: they're resistant to all logic. One has birth announcements
for Obama from various newspapers; one has his years of service in the Illinois legislature and in Congress, as well as the fact that the State Department issued him a passport -- all of which require US citizenship; one has the testimony of Republican Hawaiian officials that the birth certificate is genuine

Anyone who wants to believe, that Klingons beamed him to earth when he was six, is welcome to that crackpot opinion

22. Well, if he gives into this...
...then it just emboldens the nutjobs. Then the next thing the birthers will demand is his school records. Because they also claim that he applied as a foreign citizen to get scholarships. Then his passports and travel records. And it will just go on.

Obama has released a Certificate of Live Birth, which is good enough for any job requiring you to show proof of citizenship (e.g. govt job). If that can't satisfy the nutjobs, then nothing will. But in addition to this, the govt of Hawaii (led by a repug governor) has twice confirmed the authenticity of the records. And there is a birth announcement for Obama in a Hawaii newspaper.

So let the birthers scream and shout. I'm impressed with how Obama is ignoring this entire hoopla. Gibbs was great in his press conference today when asked about the birthers.

In fact, letting the birthers scream and shout is great. It just makes the entire right-wing look even more stupid. It's certainly entertaining me.

24. because when hawaii digitalized their records, they don't include that info anymore
Besides, do you really think knowing the doctor's name would convince them when evidently the offical certificate from Hawaii, the Republican governor of Hawaii, etc. etc., have not?

And the nutty birthers already look like fools -- nothing more is needed.

48. But there are conflicting reports. Lou Dobbs reported that all
of Hawaii's old birth old records had been destroyed back in 2001; however, the below is from from YAHOO News, the source URL is: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090728/ap_on_re_us/us_obama_birth_certificate

"I ... have seen the original vital records maintained on file by the Hawaii State Department of Health verifying Barack Hussein Obama was born in Hawaii and is a natural-born American citizen," Health Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino said in a brief statement. "I have nothing further to add to this statement or my original statement issued in October 2008 over eight months ago."

Also from the article: "State law bars the release of a certified birth certificate to anyone who does not have a tangible interest."

One wonders just how Dr. Fukino could have seen the original if it was destroyed in 2001, when President Obama was an unknown from Illinois. Highly improbable that the Doc just happened to be going through the files prior to shredding and remembered Obama's. If it's true, then intuition says it was recent.

40. Catering to the loonie fringe of any society is
a mistake. They should have been ignored from the beginning. And, giving them a title 'birthers' is also a mistake imho. They should be called what they are, the loonie fringe of the radical rightwing.

They are not interested in where Obama was born, they are angry that a black man made it to the WH. So no amount of evidence would satisfy this kind of nutcase.

Otoh, it is beneficial to Democrats to let them rant on as they are contributing to the further decline of the Republican Party especially since some Republicans thought this might be an issue, regardless of its veracity, that they could cling to. They also are helping to paint the Republican Party as racist. They don't have much else. The rest of the world just laughs at their antics.

However, it is scary to learn that these people exist in this country. I hope the FBI is keeping an eye on them.

9. They is "no there there" in their heads

It was no secret all during the campaign that Obama was born in Hawaii. They had plenty of time to beat this horse.

IMO, it has finally dawned on them that they are not in power and there is no little helper for them in the WHITE House.

Sloooooow

So now they start with their little issue ~ please wake me when it's over.

12. The Birthers Are SERIOUSLY Insane - This Won't Do Anything
Anyone hear the discussion about the birthers on NPR's On Point today? The birthers calling in were seriously crazy - even way more crazy than the right wing nuts on the panel (Michael Medved and Ben Smith) who were even calling the birthers crazy.

I've never heard such insanity before in my life, and I've haven't heard the host (Tom Ashbrook) get angry at people since Lanny Davis was on about two years ago (Lanny is a serious psycho too).

I shudder to think of what might happen if the Dems blow themselves up and this Sarah Palin wing of the Republicans happen to take over. God help us.

september 17, 1787? huh? well, was he?

"okay, smart guys, was Obama a natural born Citizen when the constitution was adopted on

No, because he wasn't alive then. He was born in 1961, 174 years after 1787! Trying to be smart isn't your forte, is it.

I just re-read the last line again and finally got it, sorry for being so slow, it's late and I react strongly when I come across birthers and went off on one after reading the first part - I had a lot of to-ing a fro-ing about this last year with some real dimwits. It's very rare that I call anyone names, I apologize for my instinctive reaction and retract the insult, on reflection it was quite a clever comment actually.

I just don't understand how anybody can believe that he wasn't vetted 7 ways from Sunday. There is no way he wasn't born where he said he was born. I would more likely believe evidence to the contrary to be faked simply because of all the handlers/folks who helped put him office working overtime to make sure nothing comes up embarrassing.(all the pols. who make it this far up have had their backgrounds gone over with a fine tooth comb by both there friends and enemies)

This is just getting to the point of being stupid.
