Microsoft and Yahoo unveil tie-up
Source: BBC News

Yahoo and Microsoft have announced a long-rumoured internet search deal that will help the two companies take on chief rival Google.

Microsoft's search engine will power the Yahoo website and Yahoo will in turn become the advertising sales team for Microsoft's online offering.

Yahoo has been struggling to make profits in recent years.

But last year it rebuffed several takeover bids from Microsoft in an attempt to go it alone.

4. They are, they'll even give you free crap to use it
Check out Club Bing, you can earn "tickets" that you can redeem for prizes. I've been using it to get free airline miles by playing games that bring up the Bing search engine to give them phony hits.

Why not? Playing solitaire or sudoku on my computer doesn't get me anything but a sore wrist. (Now, don't you smart-asses make any comments about porn!)

3. Right-WingHoo
Bill Gates and George W. Bush are buddies, of course, but doesn't Yahoo have right-wing connections, too?

At any rate, they deserve each other. I'd like to see Google get some competition, but I'd like it to be class competition - something like Google.

13. You cannot judge by that. Lots of business people support the incumbent or odds on
favorite, regardless of party. Also, he has hooked up with Warren Buffet and Buffet's money. We don't know what agreements they may have made with each other about contributions. I think it's pretty clear what Gates's own politics are. Yahoo's as well.

14. Playing the angles is correct,. Public education does seem to be

one of Gates's pet charities, at least through high school. And, as I posted above, many business people support the incumbent and/or the odds on favorite. Obama has been the favorite almost every time he ran, whether in Illinois, or for national office.

IMO, Gates is no Democrat and there's no mystery about that. No mystery about yahoo's leanings, either, IMO.

5. I love when bloated, arcane business models collide to create, well
more bloated and more arcane products. Good work, guys, spreading mediocrity far and wide.

9. LOL
What a cool idea. I saw a commentary somewhere that suggested Yahoo committed suicide with this deal. I wouldn't be surprised if it turns into another major defeat for Microsoft as well.

10. All I can say to this is: "Go, go, Google!"
Yeah, it's a big, greedy company, too. But at least it's not the curse of the Microsoft.
