Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison's (R-Texas) announcement that she will resign her seat this fall sets off a rare Senate special election next spring.

"The actual leaving of the Senate will be sometime -- October, November -- that, in that time frame," Hutchison told Mark Davis, a conservative talk radio host in Dallas, this morning.

You do realize if that was had been a male SOS back in 2000, he would have been greatly rewarded...

But since most of the GOP still considers women as glorified secretaries, she was kisked off the bus...

34. Left Field...
ex-Gov Sarah Palin moves out of Alaska, so she can do the book deal, TV show, etc. My guess is that she moves to Texas, more than likely Dallas, to avoid income taxes on her cash, better weather, and could be a player in Texas politics. She may try to channel the spirit (not the policies or spunk of) of Ann Richards. After all, there is a Senate seat that will be open and it will be an R.

36. She and her husband adopted two infants in 2001
She is the model of a moderate pro-lifer--she supports the freedom to choose (and does not believe Roe should be overturned) but she strongly advocates support of adoption and other avenues that help support alternative choices.

And at least in this instance she practices what she preaches. The next time a radical pro-lifer gets in your face, ask them how many children they have adopted.

scammed by the public safety dept for $600, its a con job.. no one on the board signed theirs, i checked, i talked to the attorney general about it they said they didn't sign theirs.. no problem.

its hard to find an article on it,.. but they never get prosecuted except in very very rarely , and that seems to be federal charges .. gingrich should be doing life now, .

who is even dumber and un-curious than Dubya and just as venal. Christ, he's an epic asshat. And no, it's unlike we can get a Dem elected this time around. We had the wonderful Chris Bell run last time, and couldn't get him elected. Balls.

33. Yes, there's a small but realistic chance
It depends on who the candidates are, of course, but a senate race is across the whole state -- no gerrymandering possible. Currently, the Texas House is at 76 Republicans and 74 Democrats. Of course, the Democrat we get from Texas won't be like the Democrat we get from Minnesota (Franken!), but it'll be a damned sight better than Kay Hutchison.
