DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- Two DeKalb County police officers have been placed on paid administrative leave after an investigation revealed they ran a background check on President Barack Obama.

Officials said Obama’s name was typed into a computer inside a DeKalb County police car on July 20 and ran through the National Crime Information Center.

The secret service was immediately notified and contacted the DeKalb County Police Department.

A representative said both officers have been with the department less than five years.

Dekalb County spokesperson Sheila Edwards said Officer Ryan White and Officer C.M. Route were put of administrative leave with pay, pending the outcome of an Internal Affairs investigation.

Both of the officers have been with the county of about 2 years.

The Secret Service informed DeKalb County that two police databases were accessed on July 20 around 4:40 a.m. The GCIC and NCIC databases were used to run the background check on the President.

In the past week or so, Channel 2 has also reported that a female officer was either arrested and/or suspended for forgery. Also, the Sgt. from North Precinct who was the subject of the visit to his lady-friend in January was found to be on the clock when the incident occurred.
