Obama's emergency escape plan leaked online
Source: NEWS.com.au

SENSITIVE documents including plans for the emergency evacuation of US President Barack Obama and motorcade routes have been leaked on a file-sharing network, authorities say.

Chairman of the US House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Edolphus Towns said the documents had been discovered with file-sharing program LimeWire.

Other sensitive documents found with the peer-to-peer program included FBI files, medical records and social security numbers.

Mr Town used evidence of the leaks to argue for the regulation of file-sharing programs.

"As far as I am concerned, the days of self-regulation should be over for the file-sharing industry," Mr Towns said.

"In the last administration, the Federal Trade Commission took a see-no-evil, hear-no-evil approach to the file sharing software industry.

"I hope the new administration is revisiting that approach."

2. Article completely misses the point...

The 'evil' is not the file-sharing industry, which this author obviously has an axe to grind with, but unsecured computers and networks. Whomever leaked the sensitive documents is to blame, not some file sharing software.
The real investigation is why did a government worker with sensitive documents on his/her computer, install Limewire on their business computer.

3. Exactly. Would that mean if someone posted them on the Internet...?
They need to go after whoever leaked the documents.

6. Yep...
reminds me of the Patriot Act being all ready to go after the terrorist attacks, when laws already in place would have stopped them, had the FBI not stood in the way of its agents' investigations.

5. I find that a bit hard to believe
It seems like a puff piece for Tiversa. There is no way to regulate file sharing networks. Administrators need to set up appropriate network security to prevent the data from escaping. Tiversa wants to sell their own software that is designed to hunt down these applications.
