Resigning state Sen. Paul Stanley will get more than $7,000 a year from state
Source: The Tennessean

Outgoing state Sen. Paul Stanley would qualify to receive an annual pension of more than $7,000 a year from the state government, the legislature’s administrative office said.

Stanley, who will resign effective Aug. 10 following a sex-and-extortion scandal involving an intern in his office, is eligible for a minimum monthly benefit of $73.90 for each year of service.

That works out to nearly $7,100 annually, based on his eight full years of service starting in November 2000. It was not immediately clear whether Stanley would also be credited for the partial year of service that includes the most recent legislative session.

Stanley could file for the state pension in eight years when he turns 55. The Germantown lawmaker could not immediately be reached to find out whether he intends to do so.

Besides being a lawmaker, Stanley has worked as a financial adviser and investment banker, but his most recent employer, Stanford Financial Group, is in receivership while its founder is under investigation for fraud.

Embattled State Sen. Paul Stanley (R-Germantown) has seen his political star implode since it was revealed that he had engaged in a sexual relationship with an intern in his office. The revelation came to light when the boyfriend of intern McKensie Morrison — Joel Watts — attempted to blackmail the senator.

Now, according to several sources, Stanley's affair with Morrison was not the first time the "family values" Republican had strayed from his public persona as a conservative lawmaker.

Sources have confirmed that Stanley has had a number of improper relationships with women connected to the state legislature.

...

Another Capitol Hill source states that in 2003 that they witnessed Stanley “making out” with a legislative intern at the Beer Sellar on Second Avenue downtown during a party thrown by the interns celebrating the end of that year’s legislative session.

According to the source, Stanley “had his tongue down her throat and was groping her in front of the whole bar.”

6. And taxpayer's get to subsidize his retirement. Awesome.
Yet health care for all is a waste of taxpayer dollars. How much could we cut our deficit if we cut Congress' salary, retirement plans (make 'em have IRA's), and health care (if you can afford it, you should be paying for it like everyone else you fucking pigs).

8. What's the cost of living in Tennessee?
While I can understand everyone's frustration with a disgraced politician getting a pension, what exactly is he going to be able to do with $7,000 a year? Also, if he can't receive the pension for another eight years, what is he going to live on in the meantime?

He won't be living high on the hog, either before or after his pension kicks in.

10. I tend to agree
Just because the voters in his district were stupid enough to elect Stanley, he's served in his position and followed the pension rules to be eligible for a payout. If the reason for his disgrace was criminal embezzlement or looting of the pension fund, I'd say cut off his pension. But since it's just garden-variety fornicating (the very same kind that several years ago led to the creation of the second Mrs. Stanley), I say he hasn't forfeited his pension rights.
