Poll: Many GOP Believe Obama Not Born In U.S.
Source: CBS4

(CBS4)

According to a new poll by Research 2000, less than half of Republicans surveyed believe that President Barack Obama was born in the United States. The new poll comes as a fringe element of the Republican Party tries to gain a foothold in the party by saying Obama is not a U.S. citizen.

28 percent of the Republicans surveyed said they did not believe President Obama was a natural born citizen, a requirement in the U.S. Constitution for any person seeking to become President. 30 percent of Republicans said they were not sure and 42 percent said they thought he is a natural born citizen.

President Obama has released a certificate of live birth from the state of Hawaii with the state seal visible on the document. There are also newspaper reports from the time of his birth in Hawaii that said Obama's parents welcomed a baby boy into their family on the day Obama was born.

In recent days, multiple conservative media personalities continued to fuel fires that Obama was unconstitutionally holding office. However, some top conservative hosts including Ann Coulter and Fox News' Bill O'Reilly have sought to quell the notion Obama isn't a citizen because of a political fear the party will be identified with the fringe elements trying to drive the argument.

2. I believe it's bullshit.
I think these people know he was born here; but will grasp onto any lie at all to try to discredit Obama. They're in a serious state of denial.

Yes, they're that desperate.

gets you through your day...

I've reached a point where I don't give a rat's ass what these morans believe. Obama won and if they don't like it, tough shit.

We had to endure 8 years of BushCo, now it's their turn. I just don't care. Other than for the entertainment value of watching these fools melt down, their arguments are useless and stupid.

6. "fringe element of the Republican Party"
The new poll comes as a fringe element of the Republican Party tries to gain a foothold in the party by saying Obama is not a U.S. citizen.

This is being portrayed as though it means that there is large swath of people at large who share this psychosis. But since only self-identified "Republicans" are included in the poll, what it really demonstrates is that the GOP is continuing to shrink toward its ultimate state: a rump party of lunatics, "save the babies" fundamentalists, racists, and southern secessionists/segregationists.

7. More Classic Steele.
Edited on Fri Jul-31-09 04:06 PM by Wizard777
I smell a Steele. For insight into GOP Chairman Michael Steele's bag of dirty tricks. You need to look at the Maryland Governors election Between Ehrlich/Steele(R) and Townsend/Larson (D). Pay particular attention to an organization called "Democrats for Ehrlich." The group was founded by a straw donation by Robert Ehrlich (R). He very effectively used this group to hijack the Democratic Party brand and use it as a very effective weapon against the Democrat Candidate Lt. Governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend (daughter of RFK.) Democrats for Ehrlich painted her as a carpetbagger from Massachusetts and Ehrlich as the hometown boy. As a result of the efforts of these Republican hijackers of the Democratic brand. Maryland elected it's first Republican Governor in 30 years, Robert Ehrlich (R), and it's first Black Lt. Governor Michael Steele. This is despite Steele having little to no support from Maryland's African American community. Now the national GOP has Michael Steele as their Chairman. The GOP is trying to paint President Obama as the Carpetbagger from Kenya. Trademarks and brands are being hijacked in support of known GOP causes. Without these dirty tricks. The only thing Mike Steele has left to offer the GOP. Well, it's his ability to get down with the Homies. Which causes the Homies to throw Oreo Cookies at him. So this just leaves one question to ask the GOP. Since we're onto your asses, got milk? 'Cause we're gonna get down and get funky. Uh huh. They were allowed to get away with this in Maryland. We can't allow them to get away with this on the National level.

If this history continues to repeat it's self. Guess who the GOP Presidential Nominee for 2012 will be? Mike Steele. If they are finally ready to allow him the top dog slot. If not he will be the second banana as usual. But that's how it went here in Maryland. Mike Steele was the Maryland GOP Chairman before becoming our Lt. Governor.

29. IMO it wasn't "Dems for Ehrlich" that defeated KKT. It was KKT herself and Glendening.
She ran a horrible campaign and lame duck Glendening did just about everything in his power to poison the well for a Democrat trying to succeed him. Martin O'Malley proved that Ehrlich was eminently beatable with a good campaign and the Glendening stench a distant memory.

31. I think O'Malley's win further proves my point.
Democrats for Ehrlich couldn't paint O'Malley as a Carpetbagger. It was hometown boy against hometown boy and Maryland went Democrat as usual. This also proves that Marylanders first loyalty is to the state and then the party. Glendenning having a powerful inner party enemy in good old Willie Don. That's what ultimately sunk KKT's boat. But what Democrats think lost KKT that election is irrelevant to this. It's more about what the GOP thinks WON the election for Ehrlich. At this point it looks like a Modus Operandi repeating it's self. As we all know the Republicans never learn. So history frequently repeats it's self in that party. Besides Steele is a one trick pony. In the Maryland election Steele tried in vain to sway the African American vote by getting down with the homies. As the GOP Chairman Steele tries to sway the African American vote by taking the party hip hop to get down with the Homies. Non party organizations that support democrat causes are having their trademarks hijacked to support republican positions. Just like they hijacked the Democratic brand to support the Republican candidate. They're trying to paint Obama as the carpetbagger from Kenya. Just like they tried to paint KKT as the carpetbagger from Mass. I don't know about you. But I've already seen this show. It's a rerun. I can't call it a plagiarism. Because they have one of the original authors running the show. That also makes it unlikely to be a coincidence.

13. Here's something I had posted on another thread:
A scenario just came to me:

Me: "That's the most RIDICULOUS thing I've ever heard! In any case, it doesn't make any difference. Once he's sworn in, he's the legal President".

Asshole: "That's crazy!"

Me: Well look at George Bush! He's been our legal President for the past 8 years, hasn't he?"

Asshole: "What's THAT got to do with it?"

Me: "Well, he STOLE the Florida election in 2000, didn't he?"

Asshole: "!@#$%^!@#$%$#@!!!!" (Turning livid, and accompanied with projectile defecation)

That's why Fox has such high ratings. Their idea of literacy is being able to repeat stuff they hear on Fox
accurately. The accuracy of what it is they're repeating is of no importance whatsoever.

20. I can't help it...
but I find this nonsense annoying. I think the Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid should introduce resolutions to the effect that Congress fully recognizes that President Obama is indeed a US citizen by birth. When the resolutions are voted on, the names of everyone voting "No" or "Present" should be publicized and put up for ridicule. Perhaps these morons could be persuaded to avail themselves of their excellent health care benefits, which I am sure include excellent psychiatric benefits.

34. Actually they did...
In voting (unanimously btw), it was recognized that Obama was born in Hawaii. Read this:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/07/27/house-to-consider-counter_n_245741.html

"...as part of the 456-word resolution, Abercrombie is including the following line: "Whereas the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, was born in Hawaii..."

To think that it started as a ruse to cover up the fact that McCain was born outside US territory in Panama.
He was not born on a military base or in an embassy. He was born in a hospital in Panama. Where's his birth certificate?

The whole birther thing is nothing more than a slightly more acceptable way for RACISTS to express their displeasure over having an African-American President. If Obama isn't a citizen, then it makes their denial easier.
