Rep. Nadler: Cheney ’still fails to understand the law’

By Stephen C. Webster

Published: August 31, 2009

Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) has joined the Democratic pile-on of former Vice President Dick Cheney over his critique of a planned investigation into the Bush administration’s torture program.

“Former Vice President Cheney’s objections to the investigation of possible violations of law committed as part of the Bush administration’s interrogation program shows that he still fails to understand the law, the importance of a Justice Department free of political manipulation, or our nation’s moral values,” Nadler said in a media advisory, circulated Monday evening.

“Former Vice President Cheney is essentially saying that any acts performed by members of the CIA – no matter how illegal or abhorrent – are ok, and must never be the subject of a criminal investigation,” he continued. “No matter what anyone in the CIA may do, it need not be subject to the law. This is outrageous, and violates just about every traditional American concept of liberty and justice.”

1. Keep backing him into a corner and marginalizing him. Cheney is bound to say something
that reveals the true rat that he is.

2. it's not that he "fails to understand" the law. It's that he THINKS HE IS the law. And he was
for eight, long, sorry years.

4. It's more than that. The ruling elitists of this country think they are the law. They make laws
that apply to the lower classes.

5. It's not that he "doesn't understand" the law—it's that he doesn't give a shit about it. It's
an obstacle to him; a nuisance. He understands it fine.

7. One thing Cheney seems damn sure of
and that is that he is above the law. And I haven't seen any evidence to show otherwise.

9. My congressman. Mine.
Jerry, Dick doesn't really believe the Founding Fathers had the right idea. He'd be so much happier without the nasty addenda, that irritating Bill of Rights.

10. Cheney thinks he was and is above the law
If they ever prosecute the bastard, he will be dragged off screaming that laws don't apply to him.

13. The Great and Powerful Cheney does not recognize laws enacted by mere peasants.
The Constitution simply does not apply to any situation that he deems where it does not apply.
