White House: Obama may detail health plans soon
Source: AP

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama, faced with falling approval ratings and increasingly impatient with Senate negotiations over health care, is weighing a shift in strategy that would offer more details of his goals for overhauling the nation's health care system.

The president is considering a speech in the next week or so in which he would be "more prescriptive" about what he feels Congress must include in a bill, top adviser David Axelrod said Tuesday in an interview. The speech might occur before the Sept. 15 deadline the White House gave to Senate negotiators to seek a bipartisan bill, Axelrod said. He suggested that two key Republicans have not bargained in good faith.

Congress reconvenes next Tuesday after an August recess in which critics of Obama's health proposals dominated many public forums.

Some Obama allies, watching his approval ratings tumble in polls along with support for a health care overhaul, have urged the president to take a more hands-on approach. They feel he gave too much leeway to Congress, where one bill has passed three House committees, another has passed a Senate committee and a third has been bogged down in protracted negotiations in the Senate Finance Committee.

Axelrod indicated that Obama would not offer new proposals but would be more specific about his top priorities.

Obama also plans to meet with Democratic congressional leaders on Tuesday.

1. Mr President
Kindly say this is what I want and this is what I'll accept. And anything less goes down the rat hole.

4. Maybe now is the perfect time, since Republicans have prematurely...
...negotiated and revealed their position.

I was frustrated, too... But, Republicans are all over the place spewing hate and stupid arguments... essentially negotiating with themselves.

I think Obama will step in and clean it up for the Democrats to pass the legislation.

5. "......faced with falling approval ratings"
Edited on Tue Sep-01-09 11:57 PM by byebyegop
So curious they threw that in there right off the top and tried to make it look like a motivator. Of course anyone one with half a brain can look at the details of some of the polls and see there is no increase in GOP numbers but that seems just completely lost on the media. Of course anyone with half a brain can see it is frustration and anxiety in the left but nothing even close to what they are kinda sorta trying to imply.

Things that make me go hmmmmmmmm.

7. What the hell is wrong with you people?
If you TRULY supported him why all the second guessing and pussying out with your "waaaaaaa everything didn't change Jan21....waaaaaaa....I have now switched to the green party....waaaaaa"

Pathetic! Voting him in was the easy part. You can't just lay back in your easy chair and ask where the change is. The hard part is just beginning and it starts with YOU!

9. Excuse Me
We didn't work hard to get him elected to show such weak leadership on a signature issue like health care. Nobody was expecting solutions on January 21st. That's a canard. We expected the President to present a health care plan of his own, not leave it all to Congress and only cheerlead for vague ideas. We also didn't expect backroom deals with big pharma.

The only thing wrong with us is we are interested not in just electing our candidate, but also in holding our candidate to his word; because in the end - it's policy that matters.

And the Green Party? Not me. Look at my username/moniker:

10. So what are you saying?

That Obama is showing weak leadership? Give me a break. He is on a level that you obviously cannot even comprehend. With statements like that you obviously are not much a supporter anyways. Maybe you still have a hardon for Hillary?

When the going gets tough the wussies wimp out. Which are you?

Are you the one getting out there to town halls and rallies showing your support? Phoning/emailing your congressmen? Donating money if you can? Volunteering if you can?

Or maybe your the other one? Watching the main stream media gruel with remote in hand and complaining on messageboards.

12. We aren't wimping out. A majority here are sadly aware of his poor leadership on this issue
You are seriously misguided. Stop being so defensive, and look at the facts, as so clearly laid out to you in the post you responded to. Thanks! :hi:

13. What issue would that be? The one that has not been resolved yet? That one?
Edited on Wed Sep-02-09 02:01 AM by byebyegop
pffft! So are you one of those people that when the home team is trying to come from behind you just write them off and start booing in stead of showing your support? Not that I think the home team is losing. FAR FROM IT! YOU seem to have already written them off though and you don't even seem to understand what is going on.

When you play poker and you hand seems a bit weak what do you do? Start getting all excited and twitchy? Or better yet maybe you just fold like a wet piece of toilet paper?!
