who are to be witnesses are without financial support at present, and are being cared for by local churches. (Families were ripped apart and some family members deported after high-speed one-day trials, ten workers at a time shackled together, in front of several judges set up in jury-rigged "courtrooms" at a local livestock grounds. It was a monstrous demonstration of government efficiency.)
If these workers are expected to testify at a trial in Sioux Falls, who will pay their travel expenses and lodging expenses in a strange city?
The financial abuses heaped on these people were terrible. Record keeping was so sloppy some workers received only a few dollars for a whole week's work. Under-age children were working in physically dangerous jobs, etc.
If these owners don't get sent to jail, it will be a terrible miscarriage of justice, imo.
