STONEVILLE, North Carolina - A man has pleaded guilty to calling emergency police dispatchers to say he was going to assassinate President Barack Obama.

The Rockingham County sheriff's office says Steve Lee Stone pleaded to charges Wednesday of communicating threats, resisting a public officer and misusing the dispatch system. He was sentenced to two 45-day jail terms, which were suspended, and 18 months probation.

Police say the 44-year-old man called a dispatcher twice from his trailer about five miles south of the Virginia border in late July and said he was going to assassinate the president. He did not identify himself.

Sheriff's deputies and a Secret Service agent investigated the caller's identity. Stone was interviewed by deputies at his trailer in Stoneville.

2. truth ... even before 9/11/2001, there was a guy arrested (and convicted and
spent/spending time in jail) for making a joke about a "burning bush" in a bar ... no overt threat to the pResident ... just a bartender who worshipped Bush ...

12. This is BS. We need to punish anybody threatening the President. Let them know this
behavior will not be tolerated.

9. Sadly, I have to commute through Rockingham County
and it's the land of rebel flags and junk cars in the yard. Wackjobbery is the rule of the day there. The sheriff (Sam Paige) is an Arpaio wannabe. Believe me, it's not a place you EVER want to break down or get stopped. It's also not surprising there's a bigass meth problem there, too. Go figure. Wackogelicals, rebel flags, and meth always seem to go hand-in-glove.

Pray, meditate, whatever you do for me while I'm on my commutes.

The Wilmington Insurrection of 1898, also known as the Wilmington Race Riot of 1898, occurred in Wilmington, North Carolina following the events of Nov. 10, 1898, and is considered a turning point in North Carolina politics following Reconstruction. Originally labeled a race riot, it is now also termed a coup d'etat.<1> This incident is the only instance of a municipal government being overthrown in US history.<2> The Wilmington Insurrection was the illegal seizure of power from an elected government by white supremacists, who used, among their many weapons, a Gatling gun mounted on a wagon and photographed themselves in their activities. Governor Daniel Lindsay Russell and President William McKinley, who were well-informed of these events, did nothing in response.

13. I wonder if, when a freeper finaly DOES shoot at Obama,
if (s)he will even be arrested. Very unlikely, IMO

For those who think a civil war isn't coming, when are you going to wake up and smell the coffee?

17. What crap?
They're waving semi-automatic weapons at his rallies. They're threatening to kill him. And there is no penalty. Where do you think it will end? And why do you think people get sent to jail for wearing t-shirts to Bush appearances while those who bring guns to Obama rallies, or threaten to kill him, are left alone?
