D.C. Insiders Ham It Up at Gridiron (Novak mocks Wilson)
The serious news of the day - from Saddam Hussein's spider hole to Medicare to gay marriage - served as fodder for song, dance and silly dress-up Saturday night in the Gridiron dinner, a 119-year tradition of Washington journalism.

In the most unusual turn of this year's satirical script, syndicated columnist Robert Novak - who sparked a federal investigation by printing the name of an undercover CIA officer - was taking the stage as that CIA officer's disgruntled husband, former ambassador Joseph Wilson.

Dressed as Wilson in top hat and cutaway coat, Novak sings of himself: "Novak had a secret source ... so he outed a girl spy the way princes of darkness do. ... Now John Ashcroft asks Bob who and how, could be headed to the old hoosegow."

A federal grand jury is probing whether someone in the Bush administration leaked the CIA officer's identity, possibly a felony. Novak hasn't commented on the investigation - until the Gridiron, in song.

This is sickening.

2. Continue to boycott CNN so long as Novak is still working their.
He may be innocent until proven guilty, but we must pressure CNN to hire more responsible centrist and liberal commentators anyway.

3. totally fucking revolting
Now, nobody likes a good laugh more than I do. Except perhaps my wife, and some of her friends. Come to think of it, most people like a good laugh more than I do.

>The "Hallelujah Chorus" becomes "Halliburton, Halliburton, Halli-i->burton."

>The show's ending, however, is a more somber tribute to U.S. troops >abroad.

gee, I would've combined the two. Made it really tasteful.

6. It's about "money",..not "the law",...
,...it's about "who you know", not what you know,...

"the law" is meaningless,...if it's about money or who you know,...

,...does anyone GET THAT?!?!?!?!

8. Well, Hunt and Novak, this is the OUTRAGE OF THE WEEK!
Edited on Sat Mar-06-04 07:41 PM by DeepModem Mom
I see in the article that Capital Gang's Al Hunt is Gridiron president, and, of course, Novak is unbelievably still appearing on the program. What's wrong with these people??? The AP writer apparently thought Novak's act rather strange: "In the most unusual turn of this year's satirical script...."

12. Several weeks ago I read that he was going to do this
As planned, with Al Hunt.

I didn't think it was funny, but Hunt & Novak apparently did.

This was a crime, & I don't see the humor. And Al Hunt should be called on this, because this was done with his assistance, while
he's in charge.

14. When Republicans can take a crime and make a musical farce
out of it before the story has even gone cold is when the Repugs feel that they have the country by the balls.

The arrogance makes me physically ill.

other spies and those employed by the CIA find this humorous? For as dangerous as their jobs are, wouldn't you think they had to be a pretty tight knit group?

23. Vanity Fair article about the Plame case a few months ago
said that the CIA operatives were furious about this. This has never happened before. It simply is not done.

The idea that somebody in the White House would reveal an undercover agent is unbelievable to the CIA, and they're furious.

It absolutely is treason. I used to think it was Cheney. Now I'm wondering if it was monkeyboy himself.

This alone is worse than anything Nixon did.

25. There were CIA agents on Nightline
when this story broke a few months ago. They were furious, one in particular, Larry something, Robinson, maybe. He was on a bunch of talk shows, complaining bitterly about this and how outrageous the whole situation was.

As a side note, on the local news (WABC radio in NY), there was a short mention of the dinner tonight. The skit that they mentioned was one starring Karl Rove as the Scarecrow from "The Wizard of Oz", singing a song about his boss, W. The name of the song? "If he only had my brain." These guys are a regular laugh riot, aren't they?

26. that Rove thing sounds hideous
If only someone snuck out some footage, that would look embarassing as hell even without editing.

Larry Johnson was the CIA guy, by the way - he was really articulate & pissed, as I recall. An effective spokesman - no wonder he isn't on tv much these days.

27. I was kind of hoping you could do a picture of
Rove done up like the Scarecrow. It is a truly repulsive thought. And you're right, the agent's name was Larry Johnson. I think I watch too much hockey, thinking the guy's name was Larry Robinson. Actually, the first Larry name that came to mind was Larry David, and I KNOW that wasn't right. Duh.

in the White House who participated in the conspiracy to expose Plame. This Bushshit behavior by Novak will only strengthen their resolve.

28. Outright f'ing criminal and laughing in our faces.
I just want to cry and, I feel so much like giving it up so much of the time.

How do we even begin to fight these people? Well, okay, if we give up, "they" win. Not in my lifetime. As much as I feel like giving up there is the other side that says to me and to all of us, "Never in my lifetime."

We have a long, tough road to haul.
Brothers and Sisters.

Peace and Solidarity.
