12. I get guys getting tattoos, it has a certain tribal or bad boy quality. But women? |
|
Call me old fashioned, but spelled correctly or incorrectly that woman's chest is a parent's nightmare.
Not only that, but it doesn't make sense. If tattoos are about self-expression, then obviously temporary is the way to go. What level of boredom would be the same expression day after day?

a woman has just as much of a right to do whatever she wants with her own body. if she wants to mark said body up that is her choice and why should any one else care?

19. But before getting that first tattoo |
|
he or she should be asked to look at some 50 year old examples to give some ideas of how tattoos age. My grandfather got some tats when he was in the navy c. 1920 and by the time I saw them they had lost a lot of clarity. The modern, multi-color ones I fear will age even more badly - even the designs some of my friends got in the late 80s are starting to blur.
I also think anyone considering a tattoo should get a temporary version of the design for a week to see how it really looks on them.
Now back to the regularly scheduled topic...

21. That's an interesting rule, is it in conjunction with traditional (now defunct) tattoo rules? |
|
And before anyone gets his or her tit in the wringer, "rules" means "common sense and/or professional standards" in this case. The rule I was referring to was the old tattooist's rule that he would not tattoo below the knee, below the wrist, above the collar bone, or any other place that will cause the client unavoidable regret.

It's more a personal philosophy than a rule, per se. :)

what kind of man is he that his ex- and child are willing to hide for years rather than let him have visitation with the child?

13. No offense, but I really hate this argument. |
|
There are legal means to determine whether or not someone is a fit parent.
A court-ordered psychological evaluation is one. And, in the case of real abuse, the authorities should get involved at the get go. Kidnapping is never the solution.
This smacks of power and control to me, much like the parents who take their children out of the country, never to return.
My ex spent years attempting to brainwash our daughter into never wanting to see me again. Thankfully, it backfired. It took a lot of therapy to get her back to some semblance of normal.

16. I agree that abusive men exist, but so do |
|
abusive women and this mother sounds like one of them. If she thought the father was mistreating the boy, she had legal options; instead she chose to cut off his access to anyone except her and her mother, keeping him inside and away from his father and the rest of the world - and that is definitely child abuse.

20. Maybe the kid wanted to go live with Dad. |
|
There are mothers who can't handle that at all. My husband's ex was one of them. She didn't quite dare hide the child, but she did her best to make visitation infrequent and as unpleasant an ordeal as possible.
She eventually lost custody as a result of her behavior, just like this mother will.

26. My sister is like that. |
|
She's one of these women who completely restructured her life around her children. She was the soccer coach mom, the volunteer in class 3 times a week mom, the PTA head mom, and the never miss a meeting with a teacher mom. She devoted herself to her kids completely.
When she divorced her husband a few years ago, she had a total meltdown when her 12 year old announced that she wanted to live with dad. She saw it as a betrayal and simply couldn't comprehend why her children would prefer "work all day" dad over "dote on kids all day" mom. There was also a desperation factor to it...when you dedicate your lives to your children, you may find that you don't have much of a life when they choose someone else. My sister discovered that she didn't have much of a life once her 12 year old moved out, especially on weeks when the other two were at dads for visitation as well.
She can talk to you for hours nowadays about how her children are "ungrateful" and how her ex-husband "destroyed her life". She won't mention that she filed the divorce papers herself because the two had grown apart and how she simply objected to staying married to a man she didn't love anymore and had nothing in common with. He provided well, he was a good dad, but she didn't like him anymore. She expected that her life would simply continue on as it was, only without him in the house, and had no clue what the real consequences would be for her.
