NYC Mayor waffling? (Can't remember what he said about gay marriage now)

Did he or didn't he?

Two days after reportedly telling a group of gay and lesbian journalists that he favors changing the law to allow for same-sex marriage, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said he wasn't sure if he used those words.

"Well, I don't know that I said that," Bloomberg said yesterday
when reporters asked him about his statements at the private dinner.

The mayor, according to witnesses at the Manhattan dinner — a benefit for the National Gay and Lesbian Journalists Association — told the group that he thinks the law should be changed to legalize gay marriage.

Up to that point, Bloomberg had not revealed his personal stance on the controversial topic.

2. That would be my guess. I speculated earlier
on the 'what was he thinking' line of thought - given that Rove etal is trying to use this topic to whip the 'base' (the new base not the old base) up and supportive - and to have the Mayor (republican - but viewed skeptically by many given that he was a dem just prior to the race) - of the city, where the national convention would be held - to publically go in the other direction. I am sure that Rove forsaw public boycotts of NYC - and thus - the national convention. That news would overshadow all publicity to be gleened from the backdrop of the World Trade Center's gaping reminder of 9-11. Also not good if their 'base' gets so disgusted that they don't come to the polls. Bloomberg's statements created a world of challenges for stage manager Rove.

3. He didn't waffle, he's been skillfully avoiding the question for the
last few months. He went out on a limb.
