Hospital officials praise president

Local hospital officials praised President Barack Obama's refusal to give up on a health care overhaul and his call for covering more Americans, but raised questions about parts of his proposal including his plans for Medicare.

“I applaud the president's commitment and tenacity around addressing health care reform,'' said Wayne Sensor, president and CEO of Alegent Health.

Sensor and an official with Methodist Hospital reacted to Obama's speech Wednesday in which he called on Congress to end its “bickering” and pass health care legislation.

Obama said reducing waste and inefficiency in Medicare and Medicaid will pay for most of his plan. He said the changes he wants would cost about $900 billion over the next decade.
