Census Bureau severs ties with ACORN in 2010 count
AP

By HOPE YEN, Associated Press Writer Hope Yen, Associated Press Writer – 52 mins ago

WASHINGTON – The Census Bureau on Friday severed its ties with ACORN, a community organization that has been hit with Republican accusations of voter-registration fraud.

"We do not come to this decision lightly," Census director Robert Groves wrote in a letter to ACORN, which was obtained by The Associated Press.

In splitting with ACORN, Groves sought to tamp down GOP concerns and negative publicity that the partnership will taint the 2010 head count.

"It is clear that ACORN's affiliation with the 2010 census promotion has caused sufficient concern in the general public, has indeed become a distraction from our mission, and may even become a discouragement to public cooperation, negatively impacting 2010 census efforts," Groves wrote.

1. Total bullsit. Any fraud by Acorn workers NEVER altered the actual vote count.
It only benefitted the cheaters by paying them for useless fake registrations that had no voters behind them.

5. I agree and it's just because of this one story.
Who would give advice like that woman did? It was horrible for the group.

Best thing is to cut ties with them now to avoid any hint of something that isn't there. You can't hold the effort of the whole back because one individual group like ACORN has issues.

11. ACORN = RICO bait
Something about that operation stinks to high heaven and this is only the beginning of what is going to come out against them. At a certain point, provable repeated behavior becomes, legally, a 'pattern or practice', and we're past that point.

If not one but two otherwise unrelated ACORN offices both attempt to conspire to assist the creation of an underage brothel, defrauding the government in the process, it speaks to the essential nature of the organization. And I have a very strong feeling that the number doesn't stop at two - that they have many more of these videos that they will dribble out over time to make the point.

15. Nonesense, Sir
No crime was committed; none of the elements for a charge of conspiracy are present. The organization fired the persons in question, immediately, and no case can be made they acted as agents of the organization in consequence.

At this point, it is worth adding that we know nothing of the background of the persons seen in the tapes giving advice. We do not know their side of the matter; we do not know if they were in collusion with the known provocateurs.

21. Your denial is abominable
You're making yourself into an advocate for sexual slavery of minors.

Any decent person would have gone right to the police to report these people, yet apparently no one did.

And here you are making excuses for it.

If I were running this party I would revoke your membership. I don't know what principles you stand for, but the Democratic Party stands for the defense of those who cannot defend themselves, the vulnerable and the helpless. There is absolutely no place in this party for a person with your attitude towards the sexual enslavement of children and international sex trafficking.

22. No, Sir: You Are Indulging In Hysteria
It is a form of amusement which has never appealed to me much.

My likeliest personal reaction, if approached by these people with this ludicrously obvious fiction, would have been to tell them to leave and stop wasting people's time with their clowning, that we had work to do here. What the actual reaction of the people on this tape was we do not really know, for we have not heard their account of the incident, and their perceptions of what was going on. Anyone who actually believed the story would rank as 'too stupid to live'.

I don't know you, I don't want to know you, I disclaim any association or relationship with you and anything about you.

And the same goes for anyone else who has any tolerance for anything or anybody that would facilitate sex slavery.

37. No Idea, Sir
One can speculate on the possibility of several innocous reasons for playing along with an obvious charade, but at this point speculation is all that is available to anyone, even those assuming some horrible thing is certainly revealed. As the matter unfolds, some account by the people in the offices of their actions is likely to emerge, and then we will know more.

Please don't tell me you really think that bringing underage prostitutes from another country and setting it up all legal like (complete with money laundering and tax fraud) is something that should be swept under the carpet.

This is seriously fucked up shit; that it was aired on Fox News doesn't make it any less fucked up.

Now watch these videos:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWRTYD26Kxc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9MCk6GvQO4

That's the ACORN Washington, D.C. office doing the exact same thing.

Each of the four ACORN employees on this tape is guilty of at least 40 years worth of jail time in felonies, based on these tapes alone.

I have heard rumors that at least three more ACORN offices are on tape doing the same thing.

This is a trap. Anyone who stands behind ACORN on this is going to have their credibility utterly destroyed.

to destroy ACORN and ALL OTHER CITIZEN LOBBYING GROUPS. If you think that they would not put plants like Linda Tripp in ACORN to destroy it then you are stupid. If this is not that then the people who did these need to be charged but not the organization.

I stand behind ACORN and allow them to clean house.

You cannot hold all drivers responsible for the actions of the ones who drive drunk and you cannot know who will be a drunk driver until they drive drunk. You do not stop all driving because there are some people drink and drive.

34. Well, if you and Fox News are worried about
these issues, you must be working hard to stop the enslavement of foreign workers with the help of Republicans in Congress, in the Marianas Islands. I have never seen any criticism of those vile practices on Fox News, although I'm sure if it had been Democrats protecting the interests of the Corporations responsible, we most definitely would have.

Two individuals, about whom we know nothing, are not representative of a whole organization. By comparison, when members of Congress agree to prevent legislation to stop the exact same thing from happening in The Marianas Islands, that does reflect on the US as a whole, does it not? Yet, Fox is silent on the issue.

The problem is, when Republicans throw temper tantrums everyone rushes to appease them, instead of using the opportunity to call them on their insane hypocrisy. Not one of them cares one bit about these issues. They are attempting to take down a president and the way things are going, it's been made pretty easy for them so far.

9. Not quite
I don't think it's exactly ACORN's causing concern, distraction or discouragement as much as the GOP's manipulation of media and government through high-financed corporate astroturf campaigns. After all, some of that census demographic information will be critical in redrawing Congressional districts, and look what happened in the LAST election!

ACORN turns in Fla. workers on voter fraud charges

By CURT ANDERSON (AP) – 2 days ago

MIAMI — Armed with a tip from the grassroots group ACORN about its own workers, authorities on Wednesday began arresting 11 people suspected of falsifying hundreds of voter applications during a registration drive last year.

ACORN, which stands for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, has long been accused by Republican and conservative activists — fed by talk-radio hosts — of fraudulently registering voters. But Miami-Dade prosecutors gave credit to the group for coming forward and ACORN officials said they felt vindicated.

"It shows that we take the integrity of our voter registration work with the utmost seriousness," said ACORN spokesman Brian Kettenring. "We turn in people who try to game the system."

39. They seem to have spread their poison so effectively re ACORN that
I'm not sure it can be undone?

As I recall it, ACORN wasn't permitted to remove "Mickey Mouse" names . . .

and those names were then held against them as something they were trying to put

over as legitimate voters.

Is there any other part of this I'm not familiar with -- or is that still it?

That someone paid these ACORN workers off very nicely under the table to go along with this crap? Because I can't see anyone in their right mind going along with and/or falling for such a stupid trick or treat type stunt. And they would have to have been paid off well enough that they didn't have to worry about losing their jobs. I smell a wingnut rat. It will come out sooner or later.
