In DePauw debate, Rove, Dean agree on need for civility
Source: The Indianapolis Star

GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- National political heavyweights Karl Rove and Howard Dean, both known for intense party allegiance, squared off before a capacity audience Friday with respect and civility but agreed on little -- except for the need for respect and civility in public discourse.

And that is something many in the audience appreciated.

"It was very civil,'' said Ryan Greenwood, 29, Linton. "These guys seemed to really like each other."

I guess they respect the political acumen of one another.

1. The real irony here
is that Rove was probably one of the sources of all the bullshit lies told about Howard Dean back in 2003/04. All the "angry" and "crazy" shit.

Respect and civility is far more than that piece of shit deserves. Maybe they should set KKKarl up in a debate with Don Siegelman, and see how that goes?

3. I hope Dean does not actually fall for this
The GOP is not going to be civil, because RUDENESS WORKS! It's the one ace they have left.

4. Howard is no idiot
He knows what was up, but he wasn't the one who was going to be the first to break the façade.
Besides, it was Rove who was the one resorting to rhetoric and talking points when truth wasn't
on his side, which was most of the time. If this was a university audience, one could hope that
most of the people there saw through what Rove was doing.

5. I'm sure Don Siegelman will be relieved to hear that Rove has pledged to be civil.
:sarcasm:

6. A really good show.
And this is where the entire two party system goes off the rails for me.

When people like these can agree on one thing, speakers fees! I saw Al Franken "debate" Ann Coulter awhile back, and all I could think is that this was the intellectual equivalent of professional wrestling. A good show for the ignorant, but with no doubt as to the conclusion.

And no matter who wins, we lose.
