Thousands march to US Capitol to protest spending
Source: AP

WASHINGTON – Tens of thousands of people marched to the U.S. Capitol on Saturday, carrying signs with slogans such as "Obamacare makes me sick" as they protested the president's health care plan and what they say is out-of-control spending.

The line of protesters spread across Pennsylvania Avenue for blocks, all the way to the capitol, according to the D.C. Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency. People were chanting "enough, enough" and "We the People." Others yelled "You lie, you lie!" and "Pelosi has to go," referring to California congresswoman Nancy Pelosi.

Demonstrators waved U.S. flags and held signs reading "Go Green Recycle Congress" and "I'm Not Your ATM." Men wore colonial costumes as they listened to speakers who warned of "judgment day" — Election Day 2010.

snip...

Other sponsors of the rally include the Heartland Institute, Americans for Tax Reform and the Ayn Rand Center for Individuals Rights.

20. mine as well
Didn't he spend more money than any president ever? I do know that he expanded the size of government more than any president since FDR. It's funny that now that the Democrats are the party of (comparatively) smaller government and less spending, the whackos still hate them - they never did care about that stuff to begin with though, they were just lines to spout to seem legitimate, and now that the circumstances have changed they haven't bothered to change their tune.

41. Does someone have figures on this?
Seriously, if we have the figures, let's get 'em up somewhere.
Somewhere in big, bold text a MILE HIGH, just so no one can claim they're not there.
Of course, many will anyway, but any reasonable person
will know them for the liars and/or idiots they are.

So, anyone know where to find 'em?
In terms simple enough for an idiot like me?

23. me too - first thought - War $$
Billions spent on a crazy war - and nothing, not a single squeak of criticism. here's where fox news puts the cost of the Iraq war since 2001:

The new report by the Congressional Research Service estimates the U.S. has spent $648 billion on Iraq war operations, putting it in range with the $686 billion, in 2008 dollars, spent on the Vietnam War, the second most expensive war behind World War II.

But do we see any people out protesting that outrage on $$ already spent!!

MILLIONS marched simultaneously all over the world and there was only a feint-hearted mention.

But a few wildly-politically motivated (purely politically motivated) idiots show up and they get non-stop coverage. :eyes:

7. I was at the "March for Womens Lives" in 2004. 1.2 million attended.
Or maybe 1.4 million. The streets were filled for MILES!

Skinner and DU even had a contingent there. The whole fricking city was packed. The Metro was jammed for hours.

Much bigger than this monumental failure.

8. I thought of that, too. WAY more of us marched against the Iraq war, and no coverage.
If we were lucky, we got a small article and pic on page 9 of the Washington Post, the war's biggest cheerleader. This crowd can't hold a candle to the anti-war marchers back then, but the media loves them.

15. Interesting how these people do have part of the big picture
Go Green, We the People, Recycle Congress and that they are being lied to. But the truth is being twisted a crucial 10% so they are mad at the wrong people. This could be used to our advantage. People's anger is real, but if they knew who the real perpetrators were, they would be a help and not such a hindrance.

Majority of these people are racist, egocentric and marginally educated. But they have to get the memo, they have to be given a clue, to stop being used as corporate thugs. I know if they knew who the real perps were, many of them would shift that last 10% easily. Just my 2cents.

19. Actually...I know for a fact that Chamber of Commerce groups were
involved in this (at least in SC). A message went out on a site (for property owners) that you have to be registered to use on one of the wealthy Resort Islands near Charleston. It was real estate agents announcing the even. Caused a big mess on the site because not all were happy with political activities put out on the board which is usually for sharing info about recommendations for termite inspectors and such. A few of the people who were advocating are property owners who are probably worth millions and they were going. So, there's a lot of business interest in supporting the "TeaBaggers." Just saying....

The "spending" that gave them:

a tax break?

fixed roads and bridges?

school building improvements?

Or maybe

Saving the world economy from total collapse?

Getting GM back on their feet?

Keeping millions of unemployed from starving to death?

Which is it?

I'm visiting my daughter in Beeville, TX., population 12,700. I saw ONE poor old crone in her 70s or 80s holding up a sign saying "We make, they take, no socialism" in front of the Courthouse. No Medicare, No Social Security either, I might have told her if she hadn't looked so old and frail. Hey, who am I kidding? If there ever was a nuclear war, she and the cockroaches probably would reign supreme.

35. Their objections ring empty say I....
Where where between 2000 and 2008 when we experienced the largest increase in government (employees and number and size of departments) since the New Deal? Where were they when the government was spending money so fast that it doubled the national debt (from 5.6 T$ to 10. T$)? Hmmmmm? One has to wonder where all this faux outrage was then. Where was their concern when their health ins. premiums went up 27% in the last 3 years? Where is their outrage for Wall Street that has taken us all for trillions of dollars over the last couple of years? Where were the members of congress waving bills and screaming "lier" when * was asking for his fifth "emergency" spending bill for Iraq and Afghanistan? Why is it NEVER part of the normal spending bill and why does no one seem to really care???

Bush fought two wars while lowering taxes. That is part of what got us in this mess. The rest is explained in the Looting of America by Les Leopold.

Also, why haven't any marches been organized for our side. I participated in a vigil organized by Move-On and was invited to another one at a time that I could not attend. There has been very little organization on the pro-health care reform side. Why? We way outnumber those Tea-Baggers. What is the real story here?

if that's what they want, I don't see a big problem. The first two I'm for anyway and would save us untold billions, the 3rd I'd be happy to just get over with instead of listening to constant griping and the blame game every time oil goes up. If its what was needed to get their backing health care though, no problem.
