'Traitor' lifts lid on US glamour mafia

They are the sorority of spin -- the media queens whose perfectly coiffured heads and pencil-thin bodies dictate the fashion and lifestyles of millions of women. Through their magazines and TV shows they dictate what American women should wear, eat, and do in the bedroom.

But now one of them has turned traitor and written a tell-all confession, sending shockwaves through US media circles.

Myrna Blyth, former editor of Ladies Home Journal, has launched a scathing attack on women's magazine editors and the top female broadcasters. In her book, Spin Sisters, Blyth accuses them of ruining the lives of women with constant exhortations to be thin, beautiful, career-minded and still raise a family.

She also says they pursue a 'liberal' agenda out of touch with many women's beliefs and frequently use scare tactics to keep women afraid and stressed. The sub-title on her book says it all: 'How the women of the media sell unhappiness and liberalism to the women of America'.

but I figured out long ago that I would never be pencil thin or beautiful. But I also figured out that what I did for humanity was much more important than the other. Fashion? How about buying clothes at the thrift store because you're more likely to find something made in the USA by union workers. The bedroom? I read one of those magazine articles to my husband, and he laughed, saying what I did was just fine!

And she doesn't have to worry about any magazine making me liberal. In fact, I'd be wondering about the intelligence of anyone whose political slant is based solely on what they read in a magazine.

Here this woman has a chance to blow apart the industry that is degrading women, by pushing them to impossible (computer generated) beauty standards.. and she blows it by making it a piece of shit liberal, political attack piece. 7. nothing liberal about most women's mags

Vogue and Elle are two of the most right-wing magazines out there, filled with nothing but fawning articles on women with inherited wealth and how you are worthless if you don't run out and purchase the latest expensive luxury shoes, handbags, over-priced makeup, etc. If they have a political ideology they would probably be monarchists. They are also quite racist; I don't think they have put a black woman on their covers in over five years. The only thing liberal about these magazines is that they are pro-choice, as are most American women including Republican women.

Marie Claire is the only geniunely liberal fashion magazine, they were writing about the Taliban long before any mainstream news outlet. This month they have an article on the plight of Iraqi women under the occupation.

Yeah, right. It's the liberals who are telling women that putting your kids in daycare--or in public schools, for that matter--is an invitation to horrific abuse

It's the liberals who warn women that the workforce is a big, bad, scary place with evil men who will take advantage of you.

It's the liberals who warn women that working and raising kids at the same time is just so, so stressful that we really can't be expected to do both.
