Reid, Pelosi Thank Union Members, Pledge Action
Source: AFL-CIO News Blog

by Seth Michaels,

The 2009 AFL-CIO Convention just got a message from the top leaders in Congress: We stand with you and with America’s workers.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), the leader of the U.S. House, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) each delivered a video message to the opening session of the convention.

Pelosi thanked outgoing AFL-CIO President John Sweeney and the union movement, crediting union members with taking the lead in winning a pro-worker Congress and giving them the momentum needed to pass legislation that really changed lives. Pelosi said:

On behalf of the Congress, I thank all of you for your leadership for America’s working families.

1. Does that mean they will stick with Public Option?
Or toss it under a bus when it becomes inconvenient?

2. We'll give you Employee Free Choice if you get off of our backs about the public option?
I hope not. I hope that the unions are unwilling to make such a bargain.

3. Probably not.
The loud ignorant ravings of a handful of extremists are already given equal consideration as the wishes of 70% of the population.

6. Yea, And As For THAT Pledging Action... Well, I Just Think It's Blowing Smoke
up someone's Ass!! They've pretty much sold us down the river, while I realize they mouth the words, I can't believe their GALL!

I'm so SICK of how much S--T they both shovel, and kiss ASS behind our backs! As a member of a UNION family, I don't think either one even knows what UNION MEANS!! What is it now... 9% of the population belong to a Union? They ought to be out there PUSHING for MORE Unions, not "mouthing" promises THEY WILL NEVER KEEP!

And yes, I AM IN A VERY BAD MOOD!!

4. Harry will define it for us . . . . . doesn't really have to be "public" to be a public option

5. If The UNIONS Buy More Of The Fuzzy-Wuzzy Then SHAME ON THEM!!
Not until it's signed on a dotted line will I believe they have OUR best interests at heart! Too many stories, too many leaks, too many "subliminal messages" in speeches that mean SQUAT... and too much SELLING US OUT for me to BELIEVE in something called CHANGE!!

They make speeches to fit whom and whatever association they talk to!! I've pretty much lost ALL MY TRUST in almost every single person in D.C.! There are a few... but TOO FEW!!

9. Thanks For The Link... United Health!!! What A Let Down! United Is Almost
THE WORST of them all!

I read part of that post and was amazed by some who actually defended her. Am I too cynical, is she playing games or not?? Doesn't look promising though!

10. I'll believe it when I see it. I really wish labor would, for once, back up its threat of not
supporting candidates during an election cycle. The loss of endorsements would provide some wakeups right smart quick.
