(Rep. Steve) King circulates pro-Wilson letter
Source: desmoines register

Iowa Congressman Steve King is circulating a letter urging House Republicans to resist efforts to require Rep. Joe Wilson to apologize to the House of Representatives for shouting “You lie” during President Barack Obama’s health care speech last week.

The Kiron Republican’s letter, which he has asked House members to sign electronically, asserts that, while members acknowledge his lack of civility, they support the underlying message, according to Politico.

Wilson’s outburst came as Obama had declared that health care legislation would bar illegal immigrants from receiving coverage. King has been a leading voice of those who argue that House legislation does not sufficiently safeguard against illegal immigrants receiving benefits.

Here is an excerpt from the letter:

“We, your colleagues in the House, stand beside you. During the president’s speech to a joint session of Congress, we had just heard President Obama declare “prominent politicians” to be liars for disagreeing with him on health care. You, and we, knew his statement that health care legislation would not fund illegal immigrants was not supported by the facts, especially in light of two House committee votes, the Congressional Budget Office, and a Congressional Research Service report. However, we agree with your statement on your lack of civility and with your response.”

And this genius (King) even does it in writing.

8. Maybe Steve King Needs to Apologize, too.
If he's defending lack of civility, why not?

Would anyone defend a thief by saying that his family needed the money (the "underlying message"). . .

Of course not. There are lots of favorable motives for horrible acts. Add King to the list of those in need of admonishing.

During the speech, King was holding a rather large "home made" sign in his lap reading "what bill?". He probably regrets his own excessive civility.

These are some of the strangest times in U.S. history. I am hurt and disgusted at all of this crap. Wilson made history that night by acting out in a manner that no one has EVER done in the history of the United States, a complete failure of civility and professional decorum. That the republicans even try to defend him, that they choose to stand and defend this crass and disgusting behavior, this complete lack of respect for the Office of the President is disheartening. On the heels of the recent issue with the President speaking directly to schools and the tea bag fest '09 signs and chants, our country is at its lowest point since the civil war (at least in my humble opinion). They are the minority though, the "village idiot" ranting in the corner and we must insure that the village idiots DO NOT determine public policy. One way may be to show that we can take to the streets just like they can but in much larger numbers. I propose a "Pro-Democracy, pro-Obama" rally in DC, what do you guys think? I live close to DC and though I have no experience organizing a rally I would be willing to help in any way I can. What do you think?

I don't have IM or ICQ but message me here or start responding. I think it would be great to show the world that the nuts are not running the asylum (so to speak :))

+edited to make a change.

**Sorry if I am breaking protocol or breaking any rules, if I am than I respectfully withdraw the request. thanks everyone!**

12. What I would like to write (if I was a constituent)
Dear Mr. King,

While it is true that President Obama addressed lies about the healthcare proposal as such, even going to the point of calling them by their proper description (i.e. "Lies"), at no time did he make it a personal attack, and, in fact, took great steps to avoid embarrassing any of the liars by name.

The fact that you apparently consider this enough of a personal attack to use it for your false equivalence in Congressman Joe Wilson's outburst says more about you than it does about him.

Murray Delph

14. "We stand behind your completely disrespectful outburst"
"In fact, we applaud you for going against proper and normal behavior. People like you make us proud to be Americans and we'll do whatever we can to delegitimize the president---Bravo".

I believe this is what the Republicans are privately, and not so privately, saying----they literally have no shame about the actions and are proud of disrupting whenever and wherever they can.

A sad time for this country!

15. If you really try, you can create reality. Or so some conservatives think.
These people are out of touch with reality. I know of no other way to put it. There is the universe, and there is a separate place for conservative republicans. And they don't meet.

...the jerk who turned the broadcast of a civilized, historic proceeding into "Reality" TV!

What's your next move Joe? Throwing chairs around? Stay classy...
