Freed Iraqi shoe-thrower: I'd do it again
Reporter tells NBC he was responding to occupation of Iraq by U.S. forces

BAGHDAD - The Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at former President George W. Bush said Tuesday that he would do it all again.

Muntadhar al-Zeidi's stunning act of protest last December made him a hero around the Arab and Muslim worlds, although he said he now fears for his life and believes that U.S. intelligence agents will chase after him.

On his first day of freedom after nine months in jail, he told NBC News that he had no regrets.

“I wouldn't hesitate to do what I've done, even if it means killing me,” he said.

1. He is a true Hero of the Arab world
He has been offered pretty much anything he wants as far as money, women, job, etc. He is literally being treated as a conquering Hero in Iraq. I consider him one myself. The nerve it must have taken to attack the most powerful man in the world in such a public manner..Just too bad Bush* was as quick as he was. I would have loved to see bush* at the very least sporting a black eye over it..

5. Then the Arab world is either mentally defective or hard up for heros.
But then they are the same ones who cheered a terrorist being released from prison after killing 185 people.

It doesn't matter that it was George Bush. It was the President Of The United States, which is the only reason that guy is still alive. If he had done that to Saddam Hussein he'd be shot on camera.

6. Oh bullshit. George Bush wasn't his President, and yet was responsible for the deaths of probably
a million Iraqis. It was Bush that got off easy.

8. I'd love to see how you'd react if your family and friends died
at the hands of a murderous sociopath like Bush. A shoe? He's lucky it wasn't a fucking grenade.

19. There is a difference between being amused by what he did, while denouncing it....
.... and thinking that the man is a hero.

2. It's a shame he didn't practise throwing the shoe
If it had connected with Bush's face it would have gone down as one of the greatest moments in history. It would've been up there with landing on the moon, and the invention of the cheeseburger.

4. What is the punishment under Iraq law for hitting the president?
Something to consider before wishing it on someone.

7. Chimp wasn't the President under Iraqi law.
Some would say he was never the President under U.S. law.

Next question.

13. Actually it isn't all.
There is a great deal of evidence that Bush never won either election.

15. I can add a few, levymg
I can add my old Army combat boots, my collection of fuck me stilletto high heels, and even my husband's favorite pair of horse stable muckracking boots. He doesn't even have to hit George with the later, just get him with collateral splatter.

17. Welcome to DU, Rozlee!!!
I'd go with the muckraking boots for sure, and hope for another near miss. Nothing like watching the little weasle pop up and down like a wack-a-mole.

20. The only thing that surprises me
is that this guy missed. My family is originally from Iraq and let me tell you, their shoe-throwing skills are impressive. I could have been yards away, but if I was misbehaving that slipper would come flying...."woosh, woosh, woosh, SMACK!!" I swear my mother could make that thing turn corners. This guy just wasn't raised right :P

21. I have a question. How would eveybody feel if it were Obama rather than
Bush that had the shoe thrown at him?

While we can't make the equation entirely equal (one started the war, the other is continuing it), on as equal footing as possible given that we're projecting into the future here for Obama (e.g. roughly 8 years after Obama took office, similar number of atrocities, casualties, etc. in Iraq during that time), how would you feel about the shoe-thrower if the target had been Obama rather and Bush? Just curious.

22. That's all down to a very big "IF" isn't it?
*IF* Obama carried on, caused a similar number of atrocities, casualties
(especially of innocent civilians), then I would hope that the shoe-thrower
would be on target next time (same as I wished he'd been on target last time).

Why should it matter which wing of the corporate party a particular greedy
mass-murderer happens to support? Does it matter to you?

I doubt that Obama could ever get to that stage (let's face it, he's got
years of unpleasant history to build up before that) but IF he did, I would
be cheering the next shoe-thrower just as loudly.

23. Yes, it's a big "if"
but if he keeps on continuing the Bush policies, he might just get there (if he gets a second term).

"Why should it matter which wing of the corporate party a particular greedy
mass-murderer happens to support? Does it matter to you?"

Not one bit. That was kind of the point of my post.
