Execution date set for US sniper

A US judge in Virginia has set a 10 November execution date for the man behind the 2002 sniper attacks on the Washington DC area.

John Allen Muhammad was sentenced to death for the murder of Dean Meyers, one of 10 people killed during the shootings.

Muhammad's teenage accomplice Lee Boyd Malvo is serving life in prison for his part in the attacks.

Muhammad's lawyer said his client would appeal to the US Supreme Court.

...I live\work in the area of Rockville and go to two of the gas stations where people were killed.

One interesting side note - obviously everyone assumed that this crime was being committed by a couple of white guys. When the last person was killed (Metro Driver Conrad Johnson - his death affected me the most for some reason), the local Police started shutting down intersections and searching cars - ONLY cars with white males. I had my car searched and was sent on my way. When I got to work, two of my black coworkers had been waved through the same intersection. We had an ironic laugh about the turn around in situations.


That was a scary time. I admit that when the woman was shot at the Home Depot in VA - I rushed out to a Rockville gas station to fill up as I had been sort of (OK...very) scared of going to get gas.

We shouldn't do these sort of things. He clearly has mental issues.

It was a very scary moment in time and I was actually scared of the Sniper coming to the MA area.

It's simply barbaric to wish the death penalty on him or anyone else.

One time years ago on his "60 Minutes" commentary, Andy Rooney said he thought the death penalty was cruel and barbaric, but he didn't give enough of a damn about the people who were being executed to protest against it. I would only protest an execution if I thought there was a reasonable chance that the condemned person was not guilty of the crime for which he (or she) was being put to death.
