Johanns (R-Ne) still aiming at ACORN
Source: AP

U.S. Sen. Mike Johanns is seeking support for a bill that would cut off all federal funding from community organization ACORN.

The Nebraska Republican has sent an invitation to all 83 senators who voted for his amendment earlier this week to block federal Housing and Urban Development Department money from ACORN. So far, he says, 15 senators have expressed interest in co-sponsoring the bill.

ACORN, which stands for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, has come under fire for several voter-registration fraud cases. On Tuesday, Johanns asked the Justice Department to investigate ACORN.

Johanns dismissed criticism that his targeting of ACORN is just partisan politics, saying ACORN needs only to "run a clean shop, and you won't get any attacks."

1. Right....because the right wingers want no one to represent the poor.
If it's not "targeting of Acorn", then why hasnt he voted to cut off all funding for Congress in light of all the criminal activity there?

4. Looks like a non issue now anyway.
One of the Acorn workers actually talked and it looks like it was a setup. Oh the modern age of doctoring a video... do'h...

And Omaha went for Obama, quite good city. Crazy to drive there, but better than some cities. :)

6. He doesn't want to defund ACORN -- he wants to destroy it.
He doesn't want them signing up voters. That is the true threat to the Rethugs.

10. Defunding ACORN will barely put a dent in it

The vast majority of ACORN funding comes from its members.

11. Is that so?
40% of their money is from the feds.

Of the other 60%, who's to say that less than a sixth of that is also through the feds at one remove, through an associated organization?

Let's see the books before we make a final pronouncement on that.

15. Let's see where your numbers come from

“Fortunately, ACORN derives most of its income from its members and other supporters, so the decision will have little impact on overall operations.”
